I was born with a disability on my right leg known as clubfoot. I started swimming when I was eight years old. I had the great privilege of participating as a swimmer in five Paralympic Games: Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016. Between those Games I brought home 20 Paralympic medals, including nine Golds.

I’m here to share my journey with you, and to talk about how we have to adapt while facing adversity. Focusing on your goals will be our main subject during these fun online Experiences. As athletes we learn how to be resilient. We go through failures and, as a result, we learn to identify what works.

I believe that the ability to be resilient is one of the most powerful skills to have when trying to achieve an objective.

Ben's story is inspiring and a reminder about focusing on what is important. Hearing him talk about his journey felt like the swimming version of Miracle on Ice. He was also very personable and was amazingly energetic and excited while talking to our group in the middle of the night in Tokyo.
