Into oza kuyenza

This will be a casual day at a family-owned batik business. The class can be run by Liz, Dogol (Liz's uncle) or Sari (Liz's aunty). It really depends who is available that day. When you arrive at the shop, you will be greeted one of us, and then an expert batik-maker will explain the process of batik to you. The person will describe and show you the batik process. Then you will make your own piece. While we wait for it to dry, you can browse around the shop and see batik from all over Indonesia, which is one of the best collections on the island.
Other things to note
Expect a casual day in a family-owned business.

I am the granddaughter of the owners of the first batik shop in Bali. I was raised in Java, went to an international school, and graduated from university in Melbourne. I want to help continue my grandmama's love of batik by welcoming you into our home and shop.
My uncle is an expert batik-maker, a simple man from the mountains Kintamani in Bali. He has been working in this batik shop over 30 years. He is funny and loves having a good time.
My aunty was born and raised in the Batik business, she has alot of knowledge about batik.

This was an awesome experience. Very unique and special. We could take home our own batik pieces we made. Everyone there was friendly and ready to help us with our pieces and guide us along. We even manage to see them make batik for the shop and it made us realize how much work goes into a piece of batik.

I would do it again in a heart beat I would like to know what acid we used to set the dye before removing the wax And what dyes did we use. That acid changed the coloring of the dye I would like to do this wonderful procedure in the USA I would like to know what dyes you use and how to set the dyes. And what acid was used Before the wax was removed with boiling water

Such a wonderful experience to attempt batik ourselves. Our instructors had limited English but made us feel very comfortable and helped out with our technique. The only drawback to mention is the unexpected mosquitoes, but they did give us some spray which helped and isn’t reflective of the batik experience itself! Such a great souvenir to bring back home with us, will maybe even frame our not-so-professional artworks!
