Into oza kuyenza

You could explore local nostalgic area and learn Japanese normal life in 90 min walk!!
Yanaka is one of the best places to walk the backstreets in Tokyo. Many temples, art galleries, old buildings, and local life are all mixed together, and I will take you to my favorite places. We'll start from Nippori Station and move to the Yanaka Ginza shopping street, where I normally buy foods and where you can too if you want to try. Then we'll walk around the many narrow streets and visit an art gallery and talk to the owner if he is there. And walk through the cemetery and a temple before we return back to Nippori Station.
*For cherry blossom season(the end of March and beginning of April), we will stop by an old traditional Japanese confectionery which makes cherry blossom sweets. Then Yanaka cemetery would be special Hanami (cherry blossom watching) place for that season!!
Other things to note
Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

The Yanaka area escaped the bombing of World War II, so there are many buildings that give it a nostalgic atmosphere. My university was very close to this neighborhood and I often explored its narrow streets when I was student. Now I live near Yanaka and visit regularly to buy food and a variety of things. I have many friends at the galleries, shops, and more. I'll take you to these shops and other spots to introduce you to the local culture.

My host for the Yanaka tour was Yukiko. Yukiko was amazing, she shared so much historical background of Yanaka and for each specific area in Yanaka. She also taught me a lot of the differences in Japanese religion. Yukiko was also able to introduce the popular food places, leaving my tummy really satisfied! I will definitely book again for future tours in Japan. I think you will enjoy it too so don't hesitate! :)

An excellent tour in a calm and quiet area of Tokyo. We visited a number of interesting sites and gained quite a bit of knowledge about the area. Would recommend!

Such an amazing experience. I learnt so much about the history of this area and also about Japanese culture in general. Highly recommend if you want to go off the beaten path and glimpse into local life.

Asaka was very proactive and anticipated our questions throughout the tour. She kept us cool and made a sweltering day super fun. We did everything from sampling local ice cream on biscuits (we can't remember the official Japanese name) to walking peacefully through the local cemetery while learning about Japanese and buddhist beliefs about family and the circle of life (yes, it got a little deep at points). She also was very careful about the heat and encouraged us to stop at air-conditioned shops so that the kids would stay cool.

Sayoko was very kind and welcoming! She told many interesting things about the area and we had a really nice walk. She was kind to lend me her umbrella since it was really hot 😅 would definitely recommend this tour and Sayoko as guide.
