1. Guests will learn that between London's Piccadilly Circus and Parliament Square there is ample evidence of the African presence in Westminster and the capital as a whole stretching from Roman times to the present day.
They will be shown over 50 points of interest.
2. The guest will meet me at Piccadilly Circus, London.
After a brief introduction i would ask each where they are from and if possible I would be happy to answer any questions pursuant to the Black experience in the UK.
3. I would like the guests to leave the Walking tour with a better understanding of the Black presence in Westminster and the UK as a whole.
Additionally I would like each to know about the tremendous wealth that British individuals were paid in compensation for simply 'owning Enslaved Africans' and of the properties they owned.
The Black Lives Matter movement has stimulated a great thirst for knowledge of those many unheard voices. The extensive data provided by the University College London with regard to the Legacies of British Slave ownership show where properties exist, who occupied them , how their wealth was acquired and how many Enslaved Africans they owned.
As the walk passes 10 Downing Street, the Former British Prime Minister, William Gladstone and his father, John, who owe much of their wealth to slavery, the guests will learn how they received £10.2 in slave compensation.

My family and i arrived in London from Guyana in 1958. An Uncle preceded us by arriving on the, now famous, Empire Windrush.
Growing up in London i have a solid knowledge of the Black Experiences in London. I have been conducting private Walking tours since 2016 , mostly with members of the Black diaspora and have had wonderful responses. I have written numerous articles, Co-edited a book entitled Memories, Migration and (De) colonisation in the Caribbean , been interviewed by the British Library for their oral archives and conduct monthly meetings on line and in person within the Guyanese diaspora.
I am a hospitality professional and have worked in the Caribbean, US and UK within the industry.
I spend much of my spare time researching historical subjects seldom touched with regard to the impact of the Black presence in the UK.

The walk commences from the iconic 'Eros Statue'(officially known as the Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain) in Piccadilly Circus. This famous landmark is often viewed as the London equivalent of Times Square of New York. The location was the subject of a major competition in 1961 to redesign the area. Won by 3 black students this was a huge gain for the growing community.

Rod reached out early in the morning to cancel because there was rain in the forecast. He offered a full refund or the opportunity to reschedule. Unfortunately, it would be my last day visiting London before returning to the states. Once I informed him that I'd be leaving the next day, he said he would go forward with the tour for me! I was SO appreciative. It ended up just being the two of us, as the other patrons canceled. I enjoyed his storytelling and all of the historical information on Black influence in London. But most importantly, I loved how proud Rod is to be Guyanese because that's where my family is from! Book this tour and learn the information that you most definitely won't get on an average London sites tour!

Rod is a super guy! So friendly and accommodating. He had some excellent stories, including personal ones (which I really enjoyed) and he made the trip casual yet informative. It was a good way to see London and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning about London, the slave trade and the abolition movement.
