Into oza kuyenza

Alpacas take to trekking quite easily. They walk in a line, one behind the other on a head collar and lead rope. Our guided treks start at the alpacas' barn and ascend into the forest. Each trek lasts about 1.5 hours. The walk itself is at a very leisurely pace, and is not at all strenuous.

When you arrive on site, the alpacas will be grazing, and we will call them in using their yellow food bucket! Simon and I will introduce you to the alpacas whist getting them ready with head collars and leads. We will have a brief health & safety chat, as well as give you some idea of what to expect and some pointers so you can interact with your alpaca. We will also introduce you to all of their individual quirks and personalities.

Alpacas are not able to carry packs or people, so they will accompany us as we walk the forest trail. We try not to let them stop to nibble grass for long periods. Half-way around the walk, we release the alpacas in an enclosed area, so we can feed them treats, and you can get very close and intimate with them. They will love you when we give you the apples to feed them. There will be plenty of photo opportunities throughout your visit.

Our spinning demonstration and luxury fibre display after the trek may not possible during Covid.

Welcome to "The Naked Sheep", we are Mia Foy and Simon Foy. Simon and I adopted our first two Alpacas over ten years ago. It didn't take long to succumb to the addiction and our herd increased from two to four. Then to no one's surprise, four became six and so on until we reached 12. It is kind of like goldfish in a bowl, alpaca numbers grow to the size of the land you can have. You have to watch out though, before you know it you start looking for more land. We now have 17!

I am fortunate to have had an extensive background working with all kinds of fibre. I also teach spinning and knitting in our workshop at the farm. When we lived in England, we owned and operated a Mini Mill next to our knitting and knitwear shop called "The Naked Sheep".

This is a one of a kind adventure one should embark on. The owners are so generous and outgoing full of enthusiasm. All of their 20 alpacas are adorable as well as entertaining to be around. On your trekking adventure you will take on BEAUTIFUL scenery that you can’t get any where else. Along with a bunch of fluffy cuties as they walk in between you. You are given your own furry baby (I got nibbles who had such a fun personality) to guide you through the enchanting woods. You learn all about the woods, alpacas, and even the business of spinning wool/ turning the fluffy coats of fur into great garments. I would definitely recommend for any one old or young who’s looking for a easy hiking trail with a fun twist of furry friendly creatures! 10000/10

We had the most amazing time!! Mia and Simon were really lovely and chatty, they really love what they do. We got to meet all the alpacas, learn all about them and walk through a beautiful forest with breathtaking views of the lakes! Mia has a studio where she shows you the process of turning their fur into wool and knitwear! Overall it was lots of fun and a must have if you are an animal lover! Thanks so much guys!! X

What wonderfully welcoming hosts and such a fun and unique experience! Even though I am not a morning person this was well worth getting up early and trekking over there. This was fun, laid back, educational, and although I was a bit nervous about the hiking bit of it and me being let of shape, the pace is slower and they encourage you to take your time and be as safe as possible with sometimes slippery terrain so I wasn't winded or anything. We were matched up with Wallace and Fat Sean as our alpacas (with Herbie as our leader) and we had a great time. We also got to learn how spinning works and just chat with our lovely hosts and it was probably our favorite experience on our trip. These memories will last us for many years to come. ♡

Such a fun experience with such sweet hosts. The alpacas were very entertaining and exciting to interact with! :) She also showed us the process on how to spin yarn and was fascinating to see. Definitely check out her handmade products for sale, they’re gorgeous. Would 100% recommend taking the trip out to their place for alpaca trekking!

Wow, we loved every minute of our Alpaca trek! It is set a breathtaking area of Kenmare. The views and the mountains and the sea were beautiful ! The hosts Mia and Simon were so accommodating and full of chat, and made us feel instantly at home. They are genuine and friendly people and they love their alpacas so much. They genuinely care about the alpacas so much and treat each and everyone of them with so much care, love and respect for their individual personality’s !! The trek through the forest is beautiful and up get to feed the alpacas carrots and apples. The alpacas are all beautiful and mannerly animals, that provide lots of laughs with their little ways. They are so intelligent and gentle and a joy to be around. The exhibition in Mia’s work shop about yarn was so interesting and my partner really enjoyed it too! I cannot wait to wear my alpaca snood on the cold winter days ! Also Mia so kindly provided tea and homemade buns afterwards , in a relaxed and happy atmosphere, with alpacas roaming freely around us, and their beautiful cat too !! It really was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone ! They also have an air bnb where you could stay too !!! A special thank you to our alpacas Buddy and Pooka who were the best boys !!
