Luqa is the typical Maltese village. At the village centre there is the Church. The oldest streets and buildings lead to it. On the outskirst one finds new buildings, some countryside and old chapels. The patron saint of Luqa is St. Andrew. Luqa is very close to the airport. This proximity was the main reason why Luqa suffered a lot during World War II. In fact in Luqa one finds war shelters. Today the shelters are used to home exhibitions held during the Christmas and the Easter period.
