Short-Term Rental Ordinance

The City of Cambridge passed a comprehensive short-term rental ordinance on August 7, 2017. The ordinance specifies types of short-term rentals and how to register your listings with the City.

Registration

On April 1st, 2018, the City opened the registration process so hosts can apply for a certificate to offer a unit as a short-term rental. Check the Cambridge short-term rental website to register and learn more about short-term rentals in Cambridge.

Taxes

The City of Cambridge and the State of Massachusetts assess room occupancy taxes on any rental of a living or sleeping accommodation for periods of 90 days or less. Massachusetts collects the tax on behalf of the City. Check the State's FAQ page for more information about city and state room occupancy taxes.
