The Original Hugs and Hike with the Herd, Rescue Goats
Did you know that spending time around animals reduces stress and increases feelings of happiness? You can double that when they are rescued goats!
Come spend time outdoors and meet some of the most affectionate goats there are. Visitors will get an introduction to each goat and and learn about their breed as well as their rescue stories, behaviors and unique characteristics of the species. We are loaded with goat fun facts and corny goat puns to add a little laughter into our day!
You'll also become part of the herd when we start a leisurely 1/2 mile hike through marked trails on our 15 acre property with the goats, who enjoy navigating the trails and foraging along the way. Watching the goats in a natural habitat and bonding with them is truly magical.
We end with extra quality time with all of the goats, who love lots of attention, allowing for plenty of hugs, scratches, and photo ops. Everyone leaves with a sticker of their favorite goat.

Sanctuary Tour and Pamper a Pig
At Wayward Ranch Animal Sanctuary our herd of rescued pot bellies are some of our most loveable, exciting and memorable residents!
This experience gives you the opportunity for a 15 minute tour of the beautiful 60 acre sanctuary to meet our horses, goats, sheep and cats. Then onto 45 minutes of dedicated time with our herd of pigs!
Pigs are often misunderstood, labeled as loud, dirty and not social. This couldn't be further from the truth! Pigs are in fact highly intelligent, emotional and sensitive creatures that thrive with enrichment and human interaction.
During your time with the pigs, you will learn the unique stories of each pig and have the chance to groom, feed, cuddle and participate in the various fun enrichment games!
If you don't see a date and time that works for you, please reach out to us directly to schedule!
Other things to note
Whenever you are interacting with animals, it is important to keep in mind that animals can be unpredictable. They may accidentally scratch you or even grab a finger when they mean to grab a treat from your hand. Our pigs are not aggressive generally, but it is always best to be cautious around all animals!
It's also important that you do NOT bring along your own pet to this experience because they will not be allowed on the experience and cannot be left alone in a car!
Play with miniature goats
In an hour-long experience, visitors will meet and play with this year's babies. These babies are bonded to humans and will climb all over you. Near the end of the hour, visitors are welcome to visit the rest of the goats and I'll be happy to answer any questions they might have about goat life. And Great Dane puppy, Spock, will be there, too!
WHAT TO EXPECT BY SEASON:
Spring: Babies are brand new, still on the bottle.
Summer: Older babies are weaned and getting a little rowdy.
Fall: The babies are tweens now, getting bigger but still snugglers.
(Don't see a date that works for you? Drop me a message and let's see if we can't make another day work.)
Other things to note:
You will get dirty and covered in animal hair! There will be poop! Babies can get a bit crazy so be prepared for some adorable chaos. This experience is rain or shine.

Adventure Hike with the Herd
Everything is better with goats. (It's true.)
Designed specifically for the people who love being active in the outdoors and also love animals! Come hike with us and our herd of rescued goats through the beauty of the forest tucked into a remote part of the Catskills, just 2 hours from Manhattan.
Our goats feel safest with humans and so they magically follow and walk with us through the woods on seasoned trails as we become part of their herd. No leashes needed!
We will meander over beautiful streams, enjoying the wildlife and scenery while we forage for some of the goat's favorite treats.
We stop midway for a brief rest and snack before finishing our loop, hiking approximately 2.5 miles and taking about 1.5 - 2 hrs, depending on the pace we set.
For those who are interested, your guide can tell you the rescue story of each goat, share their quirks and different personalities and answer any question you might have about goats in general (with a few terrible goat jokes/puns thrown in for good measure.)
If you are looking for a unique outdoor experience that combines your love of animals, hiking and nature, this is for you!
Please note:* This experience is best suited for guests over age 16 over due to the length of the hike, variable terrain & size/behaviors of the goats.
*This activity is rain or shine, with the exception of local weather advisories or heavy rain.
Essential oil and hydrolat distillation in the Hudson Valley
My name is Libby and I am a clinical aromatherapist, herbalist, organic skincare formulator and experienced educator.
Discover the ancient art of distillation on a large property in upstate New York, in the picturesque town of Rhinebeck. In this experience, you will learn how to distill two products - essential oil and hydrolat (medicinal water) - using a copper alembic still imported from Europe. Aromatic remedies have been distilled using this method for thousands of years.
Through hands-on instruction, you will learn the basics of distillation in relation to these medicinal waters and oils, preparing the plant matter and setting up the still. Guests will be able to taste a variety of hydrolats which have been sourced directly from the land. This is as we wait for the magic of the still to produce the aromatics. You will make a wellness product using essential oils and hydrolats that can be taken home while we discuss ways in which these products can be incorporated into daily life. We'll end with you filtering the fresh essential oils and hydrosols to take home and enjoy.
*Please contact me if a time/date that works for you is not available. I am happy to accommodate special requests if possible.
* Discounts apply for multiple people booking together.

Hike beautiful Breakneck Ridge, along the Hudson River
****TEMPORARY CHANGE: Due to construction work to relocate the Breakneck trailhead and repair trail surfaces from 3/1/23 to 7/1/23, our hike will begin at Wilkinson Memorial trailhead on our way to our first major viewpoint atop Breakneck Ridge. The beginning of the trail is a short walk from the train station or parking.****
I'll be prepared with snacks, water, first aid kit and ponchos and other hiking essentials for our 4 mile hike. The first portion of our hike will be a quickly elevating, but easier, climb with NYNJTC constructed steps. The next stage will be more difficult and require the use of your hands for climbs over some boulders, but we'll go at your group's pace with plenty of time to take in scenery, hydrate, and learn. The final 1.5 miles is all down hill!
Along the way, you'll have sweeping views of the Hudson River, historic architecture like Bannerman Castle, and sometimes wildlife such as the northern fence lizard or hawks. If you're lucky, you might see hawks hunting in the valley below as you watch from above at the peak of our hike.
The trail loops back to Route 9D, where we began. Our route should take about 3.5 hours, give or take, depending on your pace and level of experience. I can't wait to show you the beauty of Breakneck Ridge and the Hudson Valley!

We provide the professional art materials, easels, smocks complimentary beverages and the super cute, affectionate goats!
You can either bring your masterpiece home or donate it to the sanctuary to help them raise funds.

* This activity is bested suited for participants over the age of 13.
*This activity is rain or shine, with the exception of local weather advisories.
