We would like to make sure that your stay exceeds your expectations...
When making a request, please tell us a little about yourselves, your interest in Conroy's Old Bar and indicate that you have read the full listing and house rules.

**Please make sure that you have selected the correct number of guests that will be staying, as our property is priced per person, per night after 2 guests**

Conroy's Old Bar - is The World's 1st Self Catering Pub!
It is also reported to be one of Ireland's most famous and uniquest self catering holiday accommodations.
Conroy's is also fondly referred to as "The Pub With No Beer !"

For a holiday with a real difference!
Conroy's Old Bar is a unique slice of Irish social history, where time has literally stood still.
This self-catering accommodation which sleeps up to 4+cot can be enjoyed by guests in its entirety. You’ll have the space to yourself and will only share it with those you’re travelling with.

Conroy's Old Bar is especially suited to those who have a love of the great outdoors. Who would like to experience the true beauty and tranquillity of rural/remote Ireland, whilst staying in a converted authentic Irish village bar.
Conroy's is situated close to Lough Derg/Terryglass and the River Shannon. And on the border of Counties Clare, Galway and Offaly, in the small friendly village of Aglish in North Tipperary.

Walking into Conroy's Old Bar is just as you would expect a typical, traditional, characterful Irish rural village bar to be. So much so, that you would think it's business as usual.
At first glance you would never know that Conroy's no longer holds a liquor licence, and is completely DRY of alcohol, that so, it has been discreetly adapted into quirky self-catering accommodation that sleeps 4 +cot.
It's not until you take a closer look that you realise, even though Conroy's Old Bar has retained all of its charm and character, including its open fire, Conroy's Old Bar is hiding a little secret all of its own…….
The original highly polished mahogany bar, complete with bar pumps, optics and the original till is where you will also find neatly hidden behind it, the fully functioning kitchen, with fridge, full size cooker etc. The bar area with its Liscannor stone floor is also home to the darts board and the skittles game.
The lounge with its cosy real turf/log fire is also home to all manner of pub games, books, maps and tourist information. It's the perfect place to relax and toast your toes after a long day of taking in what this beautiful and very often overlooked area of rural Ireland has to offer.
The old snug next to the lounge is now a double bedroom with en-suite wc and what was once the cellar/barrel store is now home to a super king-sized bed, complete with the old beer barrel delivery door and sloping floor to aid the moving of the barrels.
There is also a shower room with very large shower.
There is full central heating and all linen, towels and fuel are provided.
Outside there is a large beer garden with numerous seating and BBQ areas, from which there are views over the Tipperary countryside. It's the perfect place to watch the sun go down, sat in front of the open outdoor fire. The garden is also home to our rabbit, guinea pig and 3 friendly chickens, who provide us and our guests with beautiful fresh eggs.
Conroy's Old Bar is child friendly and all baby/child equipment is available. (Cot's, high chairs etc. at NO extra cost)

New -The World of Fairies, Fairy Garden.
Children can while away the hours discovering the real life homes of the Fairy Folk, as they hunt for Fairy doors and houses in the enchanting Fairy Garden. Perhaps sail away in the Leprechauns Pirate Ship, they can even design their very own Fairy doors on our huge chalk boards.
Disabled Facilities.
Being all on one level means Conroy's Old Bar is friendly to the slightly infirm or those who have trouble with stairs. The shower is large enough to put a chair into, to help with those who are unable to stand for longer periods. Unfortunately due to a couple of narrow doorways, it has to be said that Conroy's is not too wheelchair friendly.
For anyone who has specific needs, we are always more than happy to talk with you, to see if we can arrange and adapt the furniture etc. to make your stay a more pleasant one.
Only a short walk from Conroy's Old Bar you will find the village pub and a lovely children's playground. There is also a church and the village hall.
Within a 20 mile radius you will find fishing, boating/sailing, water sports, walking, cycling, golf, horse riding/hunting, photography, go carting or even astronomy and genealogy.

NOTE: Due to insurance restrictions we have a Strict Maximum of 4 guests +cot IN & ON the property.
No extra or unregistered guests allowed.
For FAMILY PRICES. (2 Adults and upto 3 children) please contact us.

**We advise all guests to take out their own Travel Insurance, in case of cancellation.**

Conroy's Old Bar - The Pub With No Beer, is based in the centre of Ireland.
Please Note: Conroy's Old Bar is not in Roscrea (this is just our postal address)
It is in a rural location - some would describe our village location as remote, although we are only 4 miles from the nearest small town. It is fair to say we are in an area which is often overlooked for the more popular tourist areas, it is often said that if it is the "Real Ireland" you are looking for, then this is the area to be.
It must be noted that there can be more driving involved when staying in such a rural location as Conroy's. Eg: The need to drive to good pubs, restaurants or the shops, if you forget/run out of something.
Conroy's does NOT have lots of large tourist attractions on it's doorstep (thankfully). But what this does mean, is that Conroy's is perfectly situated for those who wish to get away from the tourist trap part of Ireland, yet would like to explore the vast array of interesting, smaller scale attractions, that are available to see and do around the area.
Also, being so centrally located in Ireland, does mean that when staying in Conroy's Old Bar you are no more than 2hrs drive from all major cities (Dublin 2hrs, Galway 1hr, Cork 2hrs, Waterford 2hrs).
Situated in a small friendly village in North Tipperary, bordering counties of Clare, Galway and Offaly we are perfectly placed for visiting the larger cities of Galway & Limerick approx 1 hr and Kilkenny approx 1hr 30mins.
Closer to home approx 6 miles away we have the beautiful Lough Derg and the River Shannon, a haven for fishing, swimming, water sports, boating etc. There are plenty of beautiful areas along the shores for wild swimming too. We are only a short drive from Coolbaun Quay, the popular wedding venue, Spa and Marina.
In Portumna approx 6 miles away situated on Lough Derg & the River Shannon, there is Portumna Forest Park, a beautiful haven for wildlife and photography, where you can hire bikes and travel the numerous cycle routes around the forest. There is also Portumna Castle & grounds, as well as the ruins of the old friary and the new Museum in The Old Workhouse. Not far from here you will also find Pallas Carting, for those with a love of speed and Go carts.
The beautiful Georgian town of Birr is approx 8 miles from Conroy's and is home to Birr Castle & grounds, which in turn is home to the World's Tallest Box Hedging and what was once The World's Largest Telescope, certainly a sight to see, as well as the largest tree house in Ireland.
Leap Castle, Ireland's most haunted castle is approx 30mins drive away. Although now a private home, tours of the castle can be arranged.
The ancestral home of Barack Obama in the small village of Moneygall is approx 30 mins away and Ireland's 1st Eco village in Cloughjordan is just 15mins.
In our nearest large town of Nenagh we have the Genealogy Centre where many come to trace their Irish Heritage. It is set within the old jail (Gaol) and heritage museum and is just across the road from Nenagh Castle, which has been recently renovated and is very unusual as it is one completely round tower. The original old telephone exchange from Conroy's Post Office, which was situated next to Conroy's Old Bar, can now be seen on display in the Heritage Museum.
The nearest town to us is Borrisokane for essential amenities, library, cash point, Pharmacy, service station, butchers, groceries etc.
There are many pretty villages around us where you can pass the time away with locals in traditional Irish pubs, as well as some lovely restaurants providing excellent food.
We can highly recommend spending the day at Bunratty Castle approx 1hr 20 mins and an evening at it's medieval banquet. We can also highly recommend Blarney Castle (Cork) approx 2hrs. Where if you have a head for heights and can manage to get to the top of the castle, you can kiss the Blarney Stone and never again be lost for words.
If there is anything in particular that you would be interested in seeing or doing please just ask and we will be happy to give general advice and find out opening times, costs ect.
PLEASE NOTE: Conroy's Old Bar is in a RURAL location (very small village, with no village shop) and so the use of a car is advisable to experience the best from this lovely countryside.
Conroy's Old Bar is located approx. 4 miles from Borrisokane (our nearest small town) also the nearest for Small Shops, Doctors, Fuel Station.
Nearest Supermarket, Bank/Cash machine: Portumna 6 miles.
Nearest Harbours: Terryglass (Lough Derg) 6 miles & Portumna (R.Shannon) 6 miles.
Nearest Good Bars/Restaurants: Terryglass 6 miles.Portumna 6 miles.
Nearest Children's Playground: 500m in Aglish village.

We Dave & Erron and our 3 children moved to Ireland in 2002 from a very industrial town in North Lincolnshire, England. We had found that our life in the town of Great Grimsby seemed to suit the lifestyle we craved, less and less.

Not only did we want a more rural lifestyle with fresh air, but also the chance to experience life at a much slower pace, where "normal" is to pass the time of day with total strangers. Where we could appreciate the night sky without light pollution, and have the time to notice the changing of the seasons.

We first moved to the village of Sixmilebridge in Co. Clare and then 2 years later moved to Aglish in Co. Tipperary where we bought Conroy's. The licence to the bar had already been sold and the village shop and Post Office had also been closed.

We originally thought that the property would make good self catering accommodation because of it's size, but it wasn't until we were refitting the kitchen in the main house and we were using the pub as our "make do kitchen", that we actually came up with the idea of keeping the bar intact and using it's uniqueness to it's advantage, and so
The World's 1st Self Catering Pub, Conroy's Old Bar was born.

Ngexesha lokuhlala kwakho

We always greet our guests on arrival to give them the keys and show them a few pointers on the more unusual aspects of The Pub With No Beer.
As we only live next door, we are on hand to help in any way if needed.
We are quite happy to leave our guests to their own devices and let them enjoy their stay as they wish, but we do also welcome spending time with our guests, should they wish to do so.
We have travelled extensively around Ireland over the years and are more than happy to offer guests hints and tips of places to visit, especially places that are off the beaten track and are unknown to mass tourism: "The hidden Ireland" as we like to call it. We are also happy to offer help on other things such as directions and restaurant recommendations etc.
