People have described it here as "tranquil", "relaxing", "rejuvenating", "inspiring", "an opportunity to get away from our cell phones" and, to paraphrase another guest, 'A place where peace is cultivated'. It's a great romantic get-away or a perfect place for a writer to work on their craft. Located in Burnt Ranch, we are about an hours drive inland (East) from Highway 101 and about 2 hours West of Redding - WHERE GPS/ONLINE MAPPING PROGRAMS DO NOT WORK ACCURATELY (you must use our written directions). We are at 2000' elevation, on a creek, in the mountains of the Trinity River Valley.

Our cabin-in-the-woods has been remodeled with reused materials, family treasures, and antiques - all reminiscent of the 1930s. The 5 rooms include: A bedroom with queen bed, quality linens, closet and comfy window seat, an attached “ante-room" with matching antique desk and dresser, a full bathroom with a tub/shower combo, a comfortable living room with couch, loveseat and air-conditioning unit (in summer) and a kitchenette with a sink, pantry, a bar, two bar stools, a small kitchen table & chairs and multiple electric appliances including: a one-burner Induction cooktop, an under the counter refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, 12-cup coffee maker, electric fry pan, rice-cooker, and an electric multi-cooker. There is no actual cooking range. The kitchenette is also furnished with pots, pans, dishes, tableware and most other kitchen essentials. Please note: There are no restaurants nor stores near by. The closest grocery store or restaurant is about 20 minutes away.

The cabin has two outside decks, one is completely screened in with table and chairs that overlooks the creek. The other deck is located off the bedroom with wooden rockers in the summer and a view of the woods.

We also have a detached Guest House (see our other listing called "Peaceful Trinity River Hideaway) which accommodates up to 3 people.

Our garden and orchard produce vegetables and fruit Summer through Fall. There are deer, raccoons, jack rabbits, squirrels and fox that frequent the area. Trails meander through our wooded 6 acres. Many species of native wild flowers have been identified on our property, especially in the spring and there are many types of birds.

We're located about 10 minutes above the beautiful Trinity River which affords opportunities for swimming, fishing, kayaking and rafting. Near by is a rock climbing area. Within about an hour drive you can visit the coast where the Coastal Redwoods and Humboldt State University are located along with fine dining, museums, deep-sea fishing, golfing, surfing, movies and shopping.

The temperature in the summer can range at or above 95F during the day to 50F at night. We enjoy warm afternoons and evenings, but it almost always cools down at night. The fall colors are beautiful and in the winter it's not unusual to have snow and temperatures dipping into the low 30s. We experience the beauty of all four seasons.

We've included in the cabin a variety of books to borrow and read, a few DVDs as well as many board games and puzzles for old-time entertainment.

We have great neighbors that are actually not very far away - convenient for borrowing the proverbial "cup of sugar" or to help each other out - but you can't see other homes from our property. It feels very private.

We have lived in rural Northern California for many, many years, but moved to Burnt Ranch in 2003. Our 6-acre property was originally a summer cabin and retreat for a university professor. We've spent years, our own labor, and a great deal of enjoyment making it a special place to call our own and to share with others. Burnt Ranch itself is not much of a "town" (post office, school, and USFS station), but that suits us just fine, especially with the Trinity River just down the hill from our property and with the mountains and trees absolutely gorgeous at our 2000 ft elevation.

We also travel when we can, use airbnb and have exchanged our home. We have children in Florida, Oregon as well as close by, and make trips to visit them and our many grandkids. We love being outdoors, gardening, enhancing our property, and also working on family history and doing other computer activities. Sarah is an administrator at the County Office of Education and Mike is a retired school district Tech Coordinator.
