My name is Patrick, I was born in Switzerland in 1969 and have spent most of my life there. I had my first heli-skiing experience in Canada back in 1999 and I instantly fell in love with the deep untracked powder. The following years I dedicated to changing my lifestyle to allow me to spend 3 months a year in Canada and the US on a snow safari. This meant a lot of hard work; putting in lots of extra hours during 9 months of the year that I spent at home. In those three months I would follow all the big storms around so that I could experience the best powder throughout my trip, but I had to do a lot of driving! Then in 2006, some Australian friends convinced me to come to Japan and experience JaPow for the first time. From the moment I arrived I knew this place was special and it was love at first sight. A love that grew stronger and stronger over the following nine seasons; enjoying JaPow day by day all season long. I put in a lot of hard work as a telecom engineer back home in Switzerland to build a potential future here, in Japan. In 2016 I was finally able to take the next big step and buy land to build my own cottages. Constructions started soon after and was completed in December 2016.

If you are considering Japan as your next holiday destination, don’t hesitate! You won’t be disappointed. There is so much to explore, to see, to do… There are skiing opportunities for all levels at most resorts. From nicely groomed beginner areas, moderate to steep groomed and un-groomed runs within the resort and the un-groomed and untracked powder in the trees of Cortina, Tsugaike and other resorts as well as the Alpine backcountry skiing. No matter what kind of skiing you are looking for, you will find it in Hakuba.

Should the weather ever not allow for any good skiing there are plenty of other things to do: The snow monkeys, beautiful temples and more.

Hakuba also offers a great range of dining experiences. Whether you prefer small, affordable, traditional family owned restaurants or if your budget allows for more luxurious dining, there are many places where you can enjoy all kinds of specialties from Japan. Don’t miss out on trying the Kobe beef!
