This historic apartment is centrally located one block off bustling Magazine Street--a quaint commercial strip known to locals for its bars, restaurants, and boutiques. It is one block from a grocery store, drug store & bus line. It is also a close trip to the Garden District, Tulane, French Quarter, and the St. Charles Ave. street car. It features a washer/dryer & a kitchen with all cooking amenities. Built in 1880, it is awash with historic New Orleans charm. NOLA License # 21RSTR-18255

The apartment is part of a house that was first built as a traditional New Orleans double shotgun. Though the house has been renovated several times over the course of the past 150 years, the apartment still maintains the original details of the house -- 13 foot ceilings, hardwood floors, cypress doors and trim, three fireplaces, and transoms. Our family lives in the main part of the house, which has a separate entrance. Though the apartment has all of the bells and whistles and uniqueness of a historic New Orleans home, it still has modern amenities, including a washer/dryer, dishwasher, and central HVAC. We just recently refurbished the apartment by repainting it, replacing many fixtures, updating the bathroom, and purchasing all new furniture. The headboard for the bed was made with an old cypress door that was left over from a renovation that we then affixed with thousands of Mardi Gras beads in the traditional fleur de lis pattern-- a truly unique feature.

Amenities in the apartment include:
--50 inch television with over 500 channels on Direct TV, including HBO and Showtime

The apartment is located in the historic Irish Channel, which was settled in the 1800's. We love the neighborhood because of its proximity to locally-established stores, restaurants, and bars. There is a local grocery market one block away, a drug store two blocks, and many bars, restaurants, and local shops also within a couple of blocks. Although the neighborhood is replete with foot traffic, parking is readily available on the street. The Irish Channel is one of the older historic neighborhoods in the city. The houses in the neighborhood are beautiful, eclectic, architecturally unique, and essentially New Orleans. The neighborhood is safe and friendly, and a nice mix of residents: young and old, families and single individuals, students and professionals.

We fell in love with New Orleans 18 years ago while in school. The city has been through many changes since then, but what made us love the city in the first place remains unchanged: culture, food, history, architecture, music, and, of course, Mardi Gras. We are raising our three young children in the main house right next door to the apartment, and we love for them to be a part of the unique and eclectic experiences that makes New Orleans so amazing.

Given that, we are happy to discuss the city with our guests and to share our knowledge of the city and our enthusiasm for the warmth, depth, and uniqueness of its culture. It is helpful that we live next door to the apartment, which enables us to assist guests with anything that might come up during their stay and make recommendations. New Orleans means different things to different people -- we are happy to make suggestions, but we find that the best way to explore the city is just to soak it in and follow your instincts--of course, leaving your inhibitions at home.
