WELCOME to Whispering Winds, a place to RELAX, UNWIND and ESCAPE. This 3 acre Mini Farm features an organic Permaculture landscape, extensive flower and pollinator gardens, stocked trout stream, private dog park, children's play areas, communal campfire ring, and a nature trail. All Spring Valley amenities are available within 1 mile. We are only 22 miles to Rochester, Lanesboro, and Austin. Adjacent to Spring Valley Creek Park and the 8 mile R/T walking/biking trail. An ECOTOURISM Destination.

Welcome to Woods Edge, my private camp where I go to escape. :-) It is a 14'x7' dry (no running water) micro tiny home that features a comfy full bed on the main level and a queen mattress in the rather tight loft. I consider the loft kids territory, but adults have slept there - Think parents and two kids.
This is far closer to glamping than camping! Heat, air conditioning, TV with local channels to watch the weather, mini fridge, microwave, a stocked camp pantry of pots and pans, eating essentials, huge camp kitchen with quartz countertops, propane grill with a filled tank, charcoal grill (you provide the charcoal), grilling utensils, table, chairs and bar area, camp chairs and fire pit, a FLUSHING toilet just a 100' away, private "bag it" toilet, and just 100' from a stocked trout stream! Check out the pics of the inside of the cottage at the end of the photos.
Woods Edge is in back of the horse pasture and bordered by Norse Outpost and my private dog park. It is on the edge of the woods which I am developing into a natural permaculture food forest. The nature trail through Firefly Forest has become Enchanted in 2021 featuring fairy and gnome gardens, wood spirits and other fun surprises.
I've also added, working on, a "Rabbit Village" to keep my other animals safe from the resident Mama Red Fox. Check out the pictures! :-D
This is an ideal camp for a family to come and relax and just enjoy nature without being too far from amenities or invest a lot in camping equipment. In fact, all you need to bring is yourself, your clothes, a sleeping bag, your food and any disposables (paper plates, aluminum foil, charcoal, lighter, etc.) you may require.
The trout are biting! Catch and release unless you want to eat a fresh trout at camp. If everyone caught their limit in trout who visited here, we would have no trout in the creek. Barbless hooks please to make this a sporting venture and not hurt the fish. Must have a Minnesota Fishing License with a Trout Stamp to fish.

Whispering Winds is my home, my haven in this world that I am willing to share with you. This is a “live like a local”, farm stay, ecotourism, Airbnb. This lovely 3 acre mini farm/homestead run by me, Beverly, a 66 year old grandmother, no staff to serve you or keep the gardens up. A sense of ecological awareness – the 3 Rs: Reduce, Recycle, Reuse - Midwestern hospitality, privacy, relaxed country living, with a healthy dollop of whimsy, is what I offer to my guests.
The organic Permaculture landscape has matured mixing perennial flowers with wild perennials to form a wildscape of edible, medicinal and ornamental flowers, bushes and trees. The landscape is tamed, not domesticated. Spring Valley Creek, stocked with rainbow and brown trout (catch and release only), meanders along the eastern border. The nature trail (including a lively dose of the whimsical) follows the creek allowing for moments of sitting and just being – Nature/Forest Bathing.
Summer evenings light up with fireflies that bring the stars to earth. And you can see a million stars from the campfire areas at the Norse Outpost and Woods Edge Camp.
The animals here are my companions. Jessica, my 16 year old collie dog is now deaf. Please enter the driveway slowly. Nearly all are special needs, and that is one reason why I share my little slice of heaven with you, is to take care of them. All the creatures here have stories and memories to make with you.
Your well mannered furbabies are welcome. Aggressive or unruly dogs are not welcome. I have a private dog park between Woods Edge Camp and the Garden Cottage.

Ecotourism is respectful, mindful, low impact tourism.
Respect for the natural environment you find yourself enveloped in. Respect for the host of your experience. Respect for the local population whether human or animal or plant life.
Mindful tourism takes the time to slow down and truly absorb the experience of being where you are at without changing anything – leave no trace you were here.
Low impact tourism means that you are causing no damage to the environment you are in, you are cleaning up after yourself and "leaving no trace" you were ever here, and your presence is benefiting the local community by patronizing local establishments as opposed to large corporate businesses.

Please be sure the read the Guest Manual.

Retreat Sites available:
Woods Edge Camp is my private camp where I go when I need a sanctuary, when I need harmony, when I need peace of mind – a healing serenity.
The Garden Cottage is a pallet building made of 95% recycled materials! Built byWWOOFers for WWOOFers (World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms .org) who come and learn and help around the homestead. When not in use, I open it up for others to enjoy this healing refuge of tranquility. I consider both to be “camping made easy” sites with amenities. Each has personal kennels at least 5'x10', should you want to go somewhere your furry companion is not welcome.
Norse Outpost is me playing around with my Viking heritage. It has an axe and knife throwing target - axes & knives available to rent. It opens directly into the woodland and is for tent campers.
The Balcony Suite Retreat is the top half of the Victorian Cottage that graces the entrance to Whispering Winds and is available by the week or month for longer stays.
Outback Quarters is the Lodge-inspired bonus room in the attached garage in the main house. It too is for short term stays of a week or longer.
The Master Sanctuary with en suite bathroom and full front porch may be available for stays longer than 3 months.

Oh, I am science based and believe the world is round and not flat. :-D

Spring Valley, Minnesota, United States

Spring Valley is a very quiet, friendly, SAFE, Minnesota small town. It is centrally located between Rochester, Austin and Bluff Country's premiere tourist town of Lanesboro. It is also very close to Forestville/Mystery Cave State Park and Lake Louise State Park. Great hunting, fishing, fossil hunting, bicycling, motorcycling, snowmobiling, hiking, horseback riding and more! An outdoor paradise!
This is a Private Camp, NOT a campground. It is totally PRIVATE. No dealing with other people, their taste in music, loud parties, family squabbles or something that belongs to you walking off. It is a private retreat for just you and your family and friends. :-)

Your Hostess I am Beverly, the Steward of this lovely homestead. Whispering Winds is what I call the healing zephyrs that emanate from this bit of Mother Nature. It is more than my home, it is my haven in this world as I grow old. My background is teaching, sustainable ag, and tourism. So, I can point you to unique experiences all over Bluff Country and the reason why my heart goes to ECOTOURISM. The animals here are my companions. Jessica, is a 16 year old collie dog, now deaf. Please enter the driveway slowly. Nearly all are special needs, and that is one reason why I share my little slice of heaven with you, is to take care of them. All the creatures here have stories and memories to make with you. Life is all about change and I am getting old. So, I am following my dream of creating an Intergenerational Ecovillage! What will that look like? We don't know! If you are interested in this concept, please let me know. The hope is that this year, Saturday nights on the farm will, hopefully, include informational talks in the afternoon, a hotdish meal around the communal campfire, and lots of discussion on how to make this happen! The hope is to develop a cooperative of like-minded people who desire to live in a self-sustaining community that focuses on the environmentally green principles of: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. I want to live vibrantly in a community setting that nurtures the individual, the community and the land. A self-governing (consensus decision making), self-sustaining (individuals must be income self-reliant and the community will provide income generating options as support income), and self-reliant community that provides the opportunity for individual residences within an idyllic permaculture rural setting – a part of your camping fee is going toward buying more land for the cooperative we have tentatively named “Winds of Change Ecovillage”. We can make it happen, if we work together! Our mission is to define, and educate others in, a sustainable way for humans to live, create and maintain a cooperative community, in a stewardship model that honors each other, the land, and the planet. Come journey with us... Ecotourism, Community Building, Environmental Consciousness
