Indawo
This is a perfect space for a weekend getaway or a serious retreat. This two story fully furnished retreat cottage with loft and views of the entire Himalayan range comes with staff to cook for you. Sleeps 2-6. The cottage is powered by both solar and electric lighting, there’s a wood stove and an energy back up system. The Cottage is situated on a 10 ropani peach orchard, motorable road touches the property edge. From there, walking access to cottage, 10 minutes, only- but it is on a mountainside--access challenging for physically disabled, lofts challenging for toddlers. The cottage has internet access, extra. Speak to Chadani about the rates.

This family cottage was built for anthropologist, Carroll Dunham and photographer, Thomas L. Kelly by Suresh Shrestha and his crew of craftsmen, the same crew that restored the Patan Museum and Garden of Dreams in Kathmandu. Wood floor, tile kitchen, a loft above and comfortable bonco couches that can become beds in the evening. Enjoy our porch with views of the Himalayas, and our morning sun hillside porch- perfect for early morning yoga. Bathroom is separate and simple but with running water.

2) Hike west or south-west to North through beautiful Tamang village
3) To the West village of Katike, then continue on North-west to Jashinging Pauwa. Its a kind of semi-rural Tamang village.

I am a medical anthropologist who has lived in the Himalayas for over 25 years with my husband photographer Thomas L. Kelly. We lead pilgrimages in the Himalayas and horse treks for National Geographic from our yurt camp in the Khangai mountains of Mongolia in the summer. We have two sons: Liam 21, a photographer and white water kayaker, and Galen 18, a dedicated soccer player and swimmer. We have rented our house out through air b n b and we have happily rented air b n's in Goa and in Vermont and have loved the experience. Five things I can't live without---wilderness, laughter, sunshine, a little adventure, hot showers and a good bed. Favorite travel destinations: Bhutan, Mustang, Mongolia, Kerala, Burma, Cambodia. Favorite books: oh don't get me started--I am a bibliophile. Kiss of the Yogini, Alchemical Body, Rumi Poetry, to name a few. Movies? The Bell by Andrei Rublov, I recently liked Still Alice. Music? Love live acoustic female vocalists, accoustic, jazz, funk, motown, boogie, classical Indian. Food? Indian, Thai, Italian, Japanese. Our home in Kathmandu is like a railroad station with many guests coming and going from our large house. I know what it is like to host, and I know how to respect other's privacy, and belongings. I feel it is a privilege to be a guest in another's home and I appreciate the effort that goes in to making it cozy for guests with clean sheets, clean bathrooms, fresh towels. As an inveterate nomad traveler, I contrast really roughing it with up to 8 weeks in a tent in the Himalayas, to soaking it up in a 5 star. I appreciate clean simple beauty--what the Japanese call wabi sabi--objects that are worn and tell the story of a person's life through usage. In Nepal, there is a saying: guest is God. Our home is a bit funky, but clean and homey with a large book collection, a good garden, and good air, wonderful staff, but it is a bit funky--old plumbing, the challenges of electricity in Nepal. We love to try to offer small touches of Himalayan hospitality: fresh flowers, offering bowls, chocolates on the pillows, fresh house slippers, materials to help you navigate the rich city of Kathmandu. Our staff is ready to help you. My motto this moment: NOW IS THE TIME.
