The Valentine offers good quality, reasonably priced accommodation, friendly Scottish hospitality and a great breakfast close to all major attractions. Situated just 1000m from Edinburgh's Prince's Street and on foot just 900m from Edinburgh Castle, this guest house is within a 200 year old Historic listed building in Edinburgh's City Centre. Our luxury room is our largest and has a handmade mahogany four poster bed, modern bathroom (bath and shower), large TV, seating, a desk, and fridge

Indawo
The Valentine City Centre Guest House is within Edinburgh’s City Centre at the South-West corner of the Old Town. After our expansion it is situated on all four floors of an 1813 Georgian Town House, a significant building in Edinburgh's history being a prototype of the Edinburgh 'three-door flats' layout later used throughout the city. Containing many original features, the building also has an almost unique early 19th Century eco-design. Such a historic building can have no lift of course, but if you book a room on one of the upper floors up the wide original stair case, then we will of course assist with luggage if you would like.

We operate in a modern and professional manner- a year-round guesthouse and NOT a family home simply renting out spare rooms. You will receive a key to the guesthouse and your room which gives you full access during your stay; there is no 'locking-up' time at night, and no period when you must vacate during the day between nights that you are staying. Our ground floor breakfast room serves breakfast for twice as long as most guest houses and is not used for any other purpose.

All our laundry is washed, dried and ironed in-house, so you will not fall asleep to any chemical smells on your bed-linen, and those who are allergic to industrial laundry chemicals can rest assured that the worst you should find on our laundry is a clothes-peg mark!!

Apho uza kuba khona

Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom

Tollcross sits at the South west Corner of edinburgh's historic Old Town. A long time ago, cities raised part of their finance by charging a toll or tax to enter the city, ironically there was a proposal to do this again recently in Edinburgh as a 'congestion charge'. One of the tolls to Edinburgh was in the area now known as Tollcross centred on the junction where the famous clock now stands. The pillar clock at Tollcross was gifted to the City of Edinburgh, by Provost Sir James Steel and Treasurer Cranston in 1901.

Gilmore Place is just far enough from the bustling centre to be quieter, but still around 15 minutes walk from all major attractions. Gilmore 'Street' was constructed in 1798 through property owned by Samuel Gilmore who owned a large ropemaking factory on the north side of Gilmore Place, as it became known. Older maps (eg 1830) show the spelling as 'Gilmour', which is probably the original authentic spelling.

Samuel owned a retail outlet at 100 Grassmarket and also owned the mansion house called Lochrin Lodge whose entrance was on the north side of Home* Street adjacent to the factory

*correctly pronounced 'Hume' as the Street was named after the original spelling of Scottish Philosopher David Hume.
