Set in the lovely Saligao village in North Goa (15-mins by bike or car to Calangute & Candolim), Miss Jenny's Goa is a homestay in a 100-year-old Goan-Portuguese house, where we live with our friendly doggy. This is 1 of 3 rooms at our homestay. The room is on the first floor with private access. It offers a double bed, a lounge area, HD TV, AC, bathroom with geyser, mini fridge, electric kettle, tea/coffeemaker. The airport is approx 35km from our homestay.

Indawo
We have tried to retain the Goan-Portuguese aesthetic of the house outside while providing a comfortable stay with modern conveniences inside. Our home is our happy space and we have extended this philosophy to our guest rooms too. We have chosen bright, happy colours for the interiors and lots of natural light as that's something my husband and I love in a home.

We have a lovely garden where you might end up spending most of your time here. Read a book, sip a cup of tea, listen to kingfishers, bulbuls and mynas, or play a boardgame or two in the common sitout. Staying in Saligao means that you have a chance to glimpse into the life of the local community.

North Goa, Goa, India

Saligao offers everything you would picture in a typical Goan village – grand old Portuguese houses squatting next to each other, ancient jackfruit, mango and chickoo trees, kids riding their bikes in the lanes and cows moseying along side. What drew us to this village is its perfect location, away from the chaos but close enough to the fantastic restaurants and beaches that are a big part of every Goa vacation.

Our village is beautiful and the people are friendly. We recommend wandering around its quaint lanes. A walk around the village offers a chance to see Goan-Portuguese architecture with the balcaos typical of Portuguese architecture, pretty oyster-shell windows, low-tiled roofs, and some very well-landscaped gardens. You will also hear many bird calls, and maybe even spot some like drongos, orioles, wagtails or sunbirds in the village and often in our garden too.

We're originally from Mumbai and have now moved to Goa where we run a B&B/ homestay. Working in the media industry (he was a PR professional and I worked with a travel magazine) gave us many opportunities to travel - both for work and fun. We both enjoy a slower pace of travel choosing to soak up the atmosphere of one destination rather than dashing from place to place trying to tick off cities. We always look forward to trying out local cuisine wherever we go and especially enjoy the great outdoors. A while ago we quit the big city life and moved to sunny Goa. We live in a restored 100-year-old Portuguese house in a lovely little village called Saligao. The location allows us to be close to the beaches/ bars/ cafes/ restaurants yet escape to our quiet cocoon at the end of the day. Incidentally, this is also how we choose our hotels when we travel. Moving to Goa has allowed us to slow down and enjoy some of the simpler pleasures of life and meet many interesting people from a variety of backgrounds.

Ngexesha lokuhlala kwakho
My husband Anirudh and I quit the big city life in Mumbai in favour of greener lungs and moved to the Sunshine State where bird calls are louder than traffic sounds and the neighbours smile and wave hello. We instantly fell in love with this quaint village when we first came here.

My husband loves meeting new people and sharing a laugh. I, too, enjoy interacting with people from different backgrounds and learning about different cultures. We're always happy to chat with our guests and share our home with them and help them experience a different, gentler side of Goa, which doesn't usually feature on travel websites.
