Malin Head, County Donegal, Ireland

Beautiful cliffs, rugged coastlines, pristine beaches, charming seaside pubs, breathtaking hikes. Malinhead is truly a magical place. Here are some of the sights nearby that are not to be missed:

Malin Head: Ireland's most northerly point is only a 5 minute drive away - it looks out over the island of Inistrahull. There is a beautiful hike here and it is also where the last scene of the most recent Star Wars was filmed. Gorgeous cliff walk and nearby is the raised beach - a famous geological feature left over from the ice age, also a pebble beach where semi-precious stones can be found. If the air is clear, it is possible to see Scotland. In the other direction, a wild and stunning walk leads on along the high cliffs, past Hells Hole and the Devils Bridge. Crocalough mountain offers spectacular views of Malin Head district and well beyond.

Dun Argus: About a mile or two due south a look out point provides a spectacular view overlooking the Five Fingers Strand – a sandy beach, Glashedy and the mountains of Inishowen.

The Wee House of Malin: situated in Ballygorman. This is the site of an ancient church, now in ruins, situated beside the sea.

Beaches: sandy beaches can be found at Sandport, Portmore and our favorite, the Five Fingers Strand and the beautiful Blue Flag Beach of Culdaff are also nearby.

Some of the activities include; Hill Walking, Scuba-diving, Surfing, Horse Riding, Golf, Fishing, Bird watching.

For the golf enthusiast, the well known Ballyliffin Golf Club and course is a 20 min drive from here. Other golf courses are located at Greencastle, Redcastle and Buncrana.

For horese riders: Malin stables is a 15 min drive away and they offer doeslessons and hacks for 20 € an hour along the estuary or through gorgeous green pastures.

For foodies: There are some great restaurants and pubs nearby and we can give you a long list of our recommendations. You can also buy lobsters, crabs, fish and local seafood from the pier 5 mins from the house for great prices. (We bought 6 giant lobster and crabs for 30 € and the house has everything you need to cook them in the kitchen).

For sailers: There is a sailing boat that can be carried down to the beach if youre up for it!
