This beautiful, private space will give you the best of both worlds. It’s conveniently located from Stroud town centre with great transport connections, and yet once you enter the garden here you’ll be in a peaceful retreat, surrounded by nature.

The little hut is set in our large garden, and overlooks the beautiful Slad Valley. We also have another little hut and a larger cabin and shepherd's hut - these can be found in separate listings.

Indawo
The little hut is insulated and has a single bed and bedside table, with lamps and a heater to keep you warm.

It is separate from our house and from the self-contained cabin where another guest may be staying. You have your own place to prepare simple food and the shower room and toilet are only used by one other person (hand sanitiser provided and extra cleaning done daily). You don't need to come through the house, so it's easy for us to maintain social distancing.

There’s a beautiful meditation room, which you’re welcome to use. There’s a wood burner and lots of cushions and blankets, so you may want to hang out in there for a lovely, quiet evening (no food or drinks in here though please) or start your day with yoga and meditation.

You can get WiFi signal in the shepherd's hut, and most networks seem to get full 3g or 4g signal here too. For a stronger signal you can also be in the garden near the house or in the roundhouse.

You have use of a 'camp kitchen' that is in an insulated shed, a short walk up the garden from your shepherds hut. It's a basic set up but has everything you need for a rustic cooking space! There's a light, fridge, kettle, toaster, gas hob and basic cooking utensils. You get water (which is drinking water) from an outdoor tap just outside (filling up a jug or water container as needed).

We will leave bread, milk, butter and muesli for you in the camp kitchen so that you can eat at whatever time you’re ready - you don’t need to wake up at a specific time or tell us when you want breakfast!

The bathroom you’ll use is on the patio by the house. The bathroom has a toilet, shower and sink. It is an out-building rather than part of the house, so there’s a heater that can be turned on to keep it cosy. It’s a walk up the garden from the hut so be aware that your shower and toilet won’t be right next to your sleeping space, it's a couple of minutes walk up the garden.

Ukungena kondwendwe
You have your own entrance, coming in through the back gate and walking down the garden to the hut.

If you’re arriving late or arrange to come when we’re not at home, we will leave a key for you in a key safe. In this case we’ll also send a check-in guide showing you where everything is.

We’ll generally just leave you to your own devices to enjoy the garden and the privacy of the hut. If you’re using the conservatory we may be in the adjoining house and we’re happy to chat and help you with local info if needed. If you’re chilling out in there reading or working, we’ll just leave you to it!

We will sometimes be away when you're here, in which case we're available on the phone and have neighbours who can pop in if needed.

There may be other guests using the cabin that’s a little further up the garden or the shepherds hut.

Ezinye izinto ekufuneka uziqaphele
The iron and hairdryer are left in the conservatory so that all guests can access them, but take down to the hut if you'd prefer to use them down there.

We are situated at the edge of Stroud, just as the town thins out towards the Slad Valley. Our house is detached and is on a friendly, quiet street with the valley on one side and the woods to the back. There is parking on our private driveway or free parking on the street.

You can walk out the front door and just a few minutes walk along our road will take you down a country lane. There are lovely beech woods within a few minutes walk and you can take a longer walk (30 mins +) to the stunning Swifts Hill or to the Woolpack Pub (a local favourite made famous by the Laurie Lee novel ‘Cider with Rosie’).

There are plenty of other things to explore, as we’re just a 15-20 minute walk from Stroud town centre, or a short drive from the train station (1.5 hours direct train to London). You can visit the award-winning local farmers market, go to the local pubs (knowing you’re in walking distance!), or go to any of the regular and eclectic cultural events that go on in Stroud.

You may want to be here as a springboard to explore Stroud and the surrounding villages, or perhaps you’d rather close the door and use your stay here as more of a retreat - either way is fine, or perhaps a bit of both!

Living in Stroud in the UK, I've visited AirBnb spaces around the world as well as sharing my own Stroud oasis with others. I've been living here for two years now and have met so many amazing people as an AirBnb host. Becoming a host was a jump from me after working in marketing and hospitality for years, and I love it!
