Toddell Barn forms part of our traditional Lakeland longhouse farm, built in approximately 1710. Toddell Barn sits within approximately 7 acres of agricultural land that helps attract a wide variety of wildlife. Toddell Barn is located in the hamlet of Brandlingill (2 miles south of Cockermouth) and is within the northern boundary of The Lake District National Park, categorised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

Indawo
Toddell Barn, part of a traditional Cumbrian Longhouse is found in the quiet hamlet of Brandlingill where it looks out directly onto Mosser Fell, beautiful farmland and into the distance onto the majestic might of Skiddaw. Toddell barn has been tastefully renovated ensuring that original features such as the oak beams have been retained whilst all modern-day comforts have been added. The end product being a beautiful hidden getaway combining luxury with a piece of history.

The barn is accessed by going up a short flight of stairs up to a light, fully beamed and open plan sitting and kitchen/dining area which acts as a fantastic communal area. The sitting area has a comfortable sofa that be used as a double sofa bed if need be, TV/DVD player and a dining area that looks out onto fields and fells. There are plenty of local area maps, books and board games for you to borrow during your stay. Recommendations for local walking and cycle routes as well as restaurants, cafes and inns and visitor attractions can all be found in the visitor file. The kitchen is very well equipped with cooker, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, coffee machine plus much more. The double bedroom which is also beamed is found through the sitting area and features a comfortable pocket sprung mattress along with a generous wardrobe and dressing table with further views out onto the Vale of Lorton. A delightful shower room is attached with all modern facilities.

Guests have access to a downstairs utility room where there is a washing machine (washing liquid and conditioner provided) and a drying room. Iron, ironing board, hooks for hanging outdoor coats and a warm place to dry off those muddy walking boots are all found here.

Guests also have access to a private walled garden, with table and chairs which surrounded by deep well-established flower borders. From the wildlife friendly garden, you will have views out over the meadow and beyond to the fells, the meadow and woodland being home to roe deer, hares, badgers, red squirrels and a variety of birds including barn owls. Listen carefully and you`ll hear the resident woodpeckers, cuckoos and owls. You will also see free ranging hens and our beautiful Aylesbury ducks out in the field (fresh eggs are usually available). Please do not smoke or vape in the Barn. You may however smoke or vape in the walled garden where you`ll find a flower pot for those cigarette ends.

Car Parking space is found adjacent to the end of the property and should you wish to bring bikes or canoes secure storage can be provided. Please do not use our neighbours` drive as a turning place; please reverse in to the designated parking space so that you can pull out forwards on to the lane and drive past the Barn and the house.

We supply most of the basics you will need such as washing up liquid, shampoo and conditioner toilet rolls, towels, tea and coffee to name just a few – of course if there is anything you need us to get for your arrival then please do let us know.

Ukungena kondwendwe
The accommodation is a private, self contained space with a dedicated entrance that is part of the owners own house. Guests may also access a laundry/drying room (located in the barn below the accommodation), a walled garden (with access from the front of the main farm house) and the meadow/paddock (ensuring any gates are kept securely closed to ensure our livestock does not escape!!).

Ezinye izinto ekufuneka uziqaphele
The emergence of Covid-19 has had a significant and dramatic effect on most of the world population. We took the decision to close Toddell barn in mid March based on the advice given by the UK government. On reopening we will make some changes in the way we operate to ensure the safety of ourselves and our guests. These changes include an improved cleaning regime that will focus on 'hot spots' like door handles and hand rails etc., supply of additional soap and towels and minimising the face to face contact we have with our guests.

Mosser, England, United Kingdom

Brandlingill is a hidden gem of a Lakeland hamlet that despite being off the beaten track lies in close proximity to both the busy market towns Cockermouth and Keswick. Walking is offered in all directions whether it be a river walk into Cockermouth, strolling and meandering through quiet country lanes and tracks or onto the delights of Mosser fell and beyond there is something for everyone. If one is feeling energetic one can walk to Lorton or Loweswater where one can then feast at either The Wheatsheaf or The Kirkstile Inn – said to be one of the finest pubs in the Lakes or alternatively take a dip in Crummock Water. As we are situated within easy reach of the quieter Western fells, Crummock, Loweswater and Buttermere are only a few miles away. For the more adventurous Go Ape and mountain biking is available in Whinlatter Forest, a Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine and boating at Derwent water.

There are several Supermarkets in Cockermouth, Sainsburys, Lidl and Aldi (open 7.30 – 9 Mon to Sat and 11 – 5 on Sun) plus independent butchers, greengrocer, bakeries, fishmonger and pharmacies for any supplies you not brought with you. The nearest garage is on the A66/A5086 roundabout – but beware as it is expensive.
