Our home (a working farm) is nestled below Ireland's highest mountains on the famous Kerry Way trail in the heart of the Reeks District. The original buildings date back to 1802 and were some of the last in Ireland to receive electricity due to their remote location in one of Ireland’s most unspoiled valleys on the edge of the Killarney National Park. While the charming towns of Kenmare & Killarney are an hour’s drive away, the cottage is suited to those who are keen to truly get away from it all.

The Farmhouse is a substantial traditional four bedroom home with two king size bedrooms, one triple bedroom (one small double and two singles) and a double bedroom downstairs. It is ideal for groups of friends and families looking for a unique get away in the Kerry Hills. The house has a large beautifully presented kitchen/dining room, a living room with it’s original fireplace and wood burning stove. There’s a bathroom upstairs to soak any tired muscles after your hike, and a spacious shower room/toilet downstairs.

The original buildings have a rich history and date back to the early 1800's. They have been renovated to a high standard using local materials and in keeping with the traditional cottage style. They were built by some of the first families ever to arrive in the Black Valley. The cottage is located on our 1200 acre farmland including a private lake. Guests are free to roam the landscape at their leisure. There are trails starting from the farm and more a short drive away.

We provide a basic welcome pack of homemade soda bread, butter, jam, honey, milk, sugar, teas and coffee, all firewood and fire starter pack. There are basic cooking supplies of olive oil, salt and pepper. Shower gel, shampoo/conditioner and bubble bath hamper also provided as are towels and toilet paper.

There are a variety of books, games and some art supplies to use, as well as notepads and pens for journaling. There is a television in the living room with a basic Sky TV package, and bluray player (selection of dvd's provided)

There are three other cottages onsite (two are occupied by family members) but your accommodation has its own private access, parking and garden space so privacy is ensured.

The cottage is entirely yours for the time you are here, as are the hills, rivers, fields and lakes for you to explore. You have complete freedom to roam but please do be cautious of the landscape and keep to the trails if you are not familiar with this type of terrain. We advise you to bring appropriate footwear for hiking. I encourage guests to spend plenty of time outdoors and connect to themselves and the landscape. The only areas which are not available for guests to explore are the farm yard and shed buildings. This is for safety reasons. During lambing season (April/May) we keep some of the ewes (female sheep) indoors in case they need any help and to give them extra food to build their strength. We are happy to take you to see them if you wish!

Beaufort, County Kerry, Ireland

The journey to get you here will take you through some of the most breathtaking scenery Ireland has to offer. You can choose to arrive via the famous Gap of Dunloe or the equally as beautiful Ladies View/Molls gap road.

There is a small shop 5 miles away next to the Black Valley Hostel / Church, which offers basic food supplies but we advise that you buy your groceries at one of the nearest towns before arrival to avoid unnecessary travel and to make the most of your stay. The nearest bar and restaurant, Kate Kearney's Cottage is 10 miles away and offers traditional food and live entertainment. We are 7 miles from the Killarney National Park and Lord Brandon's Cottage where you can avail of their cafe, boat/horse-riding trips and picturesque walks.

The cottages are situated in the Reeks District with many popular hiking trails and was recently listed as one of the top places to visit in the world by Rough Guides. We recommend you book a professional guide if you are not familiar with mountain terrain. You can also book kayaking and rock climbing day trips in the area.

The nearest major towns are Kenmare, Killarney and Killorglin.

I've grown up on the farm after moving here with my family in 1997. As such i'm someone with a great love of nature and the simple pleasures in life. As well as letting the cottages I am also a performing artist working mainly in Contemporary dance, film and theatre. I have been practicing Yoga for the past 10 years and trained in India to be a teacher. I love traveling myself and the insight different cultures and people give to life. I dream big and like to encourage the unique potential in the individual. I have a passion for wellness practices that make us feel better in ourselves and in our daily lives. I've been working towards getting the cottages ready to welcome visitors for the past few years now and am very happy to finally be in the position to do so.

Our family live in a separate cottage on the property. Although the cottages are rented on a self-catering basis there will be someone onsite most of the time if you need any assistance during your stay. The keys for the cottage are in a lock box so check in and check out aren't dependent on whether we are onsite. If you wish to arrive early or check out late please ask ahead of time. We are happy to try accommodate your request.

Personal pick up/drop off is available at an additional cost as are luggage transfers for guests hiking The Kerry Way.
