Summer: fish, swim (no weeds), kayaks, bike/hike trails, boat lift, firepit. Nearby: Painted Prairie Vineyard, Train Museum/playground, Slaytona Beach, Laura Ingalls Museum & MC Speedway!

Winter: ice fishing equipment rental, x-country ski rental nearby, hiking/snowmobile trail.

Families and friends will enjoy the wood burning fireplace, playing pool and watching movies in the lower level - dedicated for guests and separate from the upstairs. The view from here is wide open and sunsets can be enjoyed year round. You can fish right in front of our house for walleye, crappie and perch. Guest boat lift for fishing boat/bow riders.

In Slayton, MN there is an aquatic park called Slaytona Beach! Check it out as it is a fun water park about 20 minutes from the cabin.

Provided: Coffee, oil, basic seasonings, sugar, flour. All paper supplies, linens, soaps, shampoo, etc. Propane and a limited amount of firewood. Along with kayaks, we share our dock fishing poles, outdoor games like spike ball, bean bags, can jam, bocce, etc.

Outdoor kitchen with Blackstone griddle which will cook up the best breakfast you've ever made and propane grill. Kitchenette with the basics (oil, salt & pepper, steak seasoning)! Indoor cooking includes a very large electric skillet, Air-fryer/oven (12" pizza), instant pot/slow cooker, microwave, electric griddle/waffle maker, and toaster. Coffee pot and Keurig. The kitchenette refrigerator is surprisingly big but there is plenty of beverage space in the additional dorm refrigerator for your extra drinks or if you can't fit it all, we have a garage refrigerator. Note: there is no range.

Take a cooking vacation Painted Prairie Vineyard (fun), Breezy Barn (bar food), or land/water access restaurant: Pelican Cove (seasonal). Nearby, year round is Bonnie and Clyde’s in Tracy has really good pizza – you wont be disappointed! Check all restaurant hours as they change seasonally.

Summer: guest boat lift on the docks for you (inquire about boat rentals). Yard games and floaties for your water enjoyment.

Winter: clam ice shack, heater, electric auger, Vexlar fish finder $60/day. Contact us for availability please.

Note: We do ask guests to do dishes, empty trash and strip the beds but if you'd like to skips these steps for a small fee, we can accommodate you.

Note: we welcome families with all ages but no matter the size or age of the guest, use the adult or child age when entering your registration. If you have questions about this, please ask. Caution: the dock on the lake has no rails with depths up to 6.5 ft, youngsters must wear life jackets.

The Lakes Area is friendly, with a small-town feeling. Our neighbors are our friends and live here year-round. We all live for outdoor adventures and summertime on the Prairie. Lake Shetek is a prairie lake and is 13 feet at the deepest part it has mostly a flat bottom and well-marked rocky points. There are a few weeds in the shallow bays but no weeds anywhere over four feet. None in front of your lower level suite.

Fish in Lake Shetek and area waters: Walleye, Perch, Northern Pike/Pickerel, Channel Cats, Catfish, Crappie, Bluegills, Bullhead, and others. On the weekend you'll see lots of lake activity. During the week you may see a few other pontoons or fish and ski boats but it’s really pretty quiet, which is great for paddling the kayaks. In the winter, there are ice shack towns on both the north and south lake. There are extensive snowmobile trails nearby as well.

Note, if you walk/bike/snowmobile to the far end of Hudson Road there is a mowed path to the paved trail system of the State Park, from there you have miles of trails and historical markers to visit and learn about the early prairie settlers. In the state park there is a settler’s cabin decked out in period furniture. They have a little welcome center with gifts, ice, SUP board rentals, canoe rental, a nature center, playground!

Across the lake, Shetek Environmental Learning Center has lots of activities scheduled both summer and winter. They make the best maple syrup from their trees and you can attend their syrup boiling in March. They often have snowshoe making classes and other great events. Search for them on the internet

You'll feel a little closer to the land that you remember reading about from early Minnesota history. You're not far from Laura Ingalls Wilder's stomping grounds.

Lake Shetek has plenty of boat up sandy beaches that make meeting like-minded friendly people out on the water fun. Key Largo and Pelican Cove both operate restaurants on the water, and we love both. They have live bands most weekends as does Breezy Barn and Painted Prairie Vineyard. Tails Edge General Store & Cafe 2 miles away is great - closed in the off season.
Even if you're not a museum person, you might change your mind when you visit End-O-Line Museum in Currie which is open Memorial to Labor Day.
