A freshly renovated former dairy, the Dairy Cottage is a slice of paradise. This bright, cosy detached cottage combines a rural feel with all the contemporary comforts. The cottage is set in a beautiful Victorian walled garden, with views of the surrounding countryside, and a gentle 10 min walk to Lismore. The cottage shares a cobbled yard with our own house, so we are on hand should you need us, but otherwise you are entirely private.

Indawo
The laneway entrance to the Dairy Cottage leads you into an entrance room with plenty of space to leave your shoes and coats. You can also wash off any mud or sand from your outings in the vicinity, in the large Belfast sink. The hallway accesses a utility room with washing machine and downstairs loo. Meanwhile, a glass panelled door brings you into the kitchen which is warmed by light from the east, south and west. The kitchen opens on to the cobbled courtyard, and looks out over the walled garden. A well equipped space, the kitchen includes an oil-fired range (very quick to heat and simple to use), fridge/freezer and dishwasher. The kitchen table seats six, and so is perfect for long lazy holiday breakfasts and delicious evening feasts.

Next door to the kitchen is one of your two sitting rooms, and this room has a Smart TV with Saorview channels and a DVD player. The sitting room is made ultra cozy by a stove and it overlooks the courtyard. All firewood is provided for the fire.

Beyond this sitting room is a bedroom, which is utterly private. This has good quality, comfortable mattresses that zip and link so the bed can be configured as a large superking bed or two single beds.

From the sitting room, the stairs lead you up to a very tranquil, large sitting room - perfect for reading or board games. Bedroom two is off the sitting room. This bedroom is a spacious place with a kingsize bed, and views of the courtyard. The family bathroom is a bright room with views of the surrounding fields, and houses a loo, sink, power shower and hot press. All bed linen and towels are provided.

To the left of the stairs is the master bedroom. This is a large and lofty room, with a another zip and link bed which can be configured as a superking bed or two single beds. It also houses day bed with pull out trundle. Dual aspect, it has a east and south views, and a romantic ensuite bathroom with a stand alone roll top bath, perfectly positioned to soak up the surrounding views of the countryside.

Ukungena kondwendwe
The Dairy Cottage shares a charming cobbled courtyard with our own house. You are welcome to enjoy this space. You also have your own private patio that is the perfect spot for afternoon tea or a drink at sunset. This patio has picnic table seating and a charcoal BBQ.
Direct from the cobbled yard or patio, you can wander freely around the Victorian walled garden, which is full of fruits, vegetables and flowers, so please relax and enjoy one of the many idyllic spots in this haven.

The overall property also includes our house and a separate cottage at the other end of the walled garden. Both have their own private gardens that are clearly marked. The other cottage is home to our neighbour and friend, who is also owner of the equally friendly horse you'll meet as you drive up the avenue, so free feel to explore this beautiful tranquil place and feel at home.

Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland

Lismore is a beautiful historic town with lots to offer. Just 30 mins from the M8, 2.5 hrs from Dublin and 45 mins from Cork airport, it's a great place to explore all that the south east of Ireland, also known as Ireland's Ancient East has to offer.

Lismore is home to the stunning and historic Lismore Castle, and its famed gardens. The gardens are open for you to visit between March and October. The Castle also hosts art exhibitions, as well as book and opera festivals at various points throughout the year.

The Heritage Town of Lismore is less than ten minutes walk, and you can take a very picturesque walk there along the Blackwater River. Here, you'll find historic Cathedral, as well as the Castle and its grounds. Or why not visit Cappoquin House and Gardens? These, and more, are collectively known as the Great Houses of the Blackwater Valley, and are right on your doorstep.

Meanwhile, The Towers Woodland Walk, Glenshelane River/Woodland Walk and the Knockmealdown Mountain walks are all within just 10 mins drive.

For a more bracing but equally rewarding experience, why not try wild swimming in the river at The Strand, Lismore. The river is also gentle enough just to dip your toe in! This special place also transforms into a Winter Wonderland at Christmas time and is a magical experience not to be missed if staying in December.

There's so much more to experience in the locality too, such as fishing and river kayaking on the Blackwater river. Within 30 mins drive, 4 different beaches offer long, sandy stretches, rock pools and gentle waves. Other attractions within 30mins include The Jameson Experience in Midleton, Ballymaloe House and gardens, Fota Island Wildlife Park, riding at Colligan Equestrian centre, Leahy's Open Farm, Ardmore Open Farm, Comeragh Mountain walks, Sean Kelly Cycle trail, and the Waterford Greenway cycle route.

Your kitchen is very well equipped to enjoy dining in and there's one of the best butchers in Ireland in Lismore (McGarths) down the road, but should you want to explore more, the local pub Foleys, the Summerhouse cafe, The Vault cafe and the farmers market on a Sunday do good food. If it's variety that you are after, you can't go wrong with many of the restaurants that are in Dungarvan, Ardmore and Youghal, including the acclaimed Tannery, and Michelin Starred Cliff House.

The area is also an art and crafts hot spot, and the Lismore Gallery Valerie, Ardmore Pottery, Cappoquin Market House Craftworks, and I Am Of Ireland centre will give you access to some of the best makers in Waterford, and in Ireland.

We are happy to give you any help and advice you like to make the most of this beautiful region.
