Take a break at Ardilaun House and relax in one of our large double rooms.

Make a warm drink in your room; wander in the large, riverside garden or get the barbecue going ... and enjoy Ennis and the peaceful Irish countryside.

No distance from Shannon Airport, Ennis is the ideal place from which to explore Ireland’s mid-west— the Wild Atlantic Way, the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, the Burren, Bunratty Castle, Aillwee Cave, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna and much, much more.

This double room is at garden-floor level and has a king-size bed. It includes a patio door straight out to the garden ... a welcoming haven for the tired traveller.

As well as the en-suite bathroom, the room has a dressing table and mirror, a wardrobe, casual seating and a casual table with coffee and tea making facilities; it also includes wifi and a TV. The breakfast room is just along the corridor.

Open the patio doors and you step out into Ardilaun’s stunning garden which includes several artworks. The garden slopes gently down to a riverside, decked area where there is a barbecue with adjacent seating and tables and the possibility of hooking and cooking your own dinner, straight out of the Fergus.

There is plenty of free parking but you won’t need a car for the 600m walk to Ballyallia Lake, an well- known and important ecological site for waterbirds that has been recognised as a wetland of international importance. There is easy access to lakeside walks around Ballyallia and, in July and August, kayaks and stand-up boards are available for hire. (For more details of other attractions, amenities and services in and around Ennis, see ‘Other things to note’ below.)

Ardilaun has invested in an ozone generator to facilitate the daily sterilisation of all rooms; in addition we are committed to following all current safety procedures.

Ukungena kondwendwe
The proximity of Shannon Airport ensures that access to Ennis and Ardilaun is straightforward ... just 22 minutes by car. It also makes Ardilaun an ideal stopover before the flight home.

Leaving the motorway (the M18) at junction 14—either from Shannon Airport to the south or Galway in the north—Ardilaun is a little over 3km (2 miles) south on the R458 towards Ennis itself. For those already driving in county Clare, Ardilaun is on the R458 north of Ennis and before Barefield.

Shannon Airport and Ennis Bus & Railway Station are linked by two bus services every hour: Bus Eireann route 51 takes half an hour and route 343 another 15 minutes; there are also regular rail services between Limerick and Galway that stop at Ennis.

With Ardilaun is a 45-minute walk from the station and having no onward public transport, guests can arrange to be collected at the Bus & Railway Station.

Guests can also arrange to be picked up from Shannon Airport by a local and reliable taxi service (number available on request) recommended by Ardilaun. It is useful for the driver to have flight details so that its progress can monitored online and he arrives on schedule.

Ezinye izinto ekufuneka uziqaphele
As the county town of Clare, Ennis has not only managed to retain its charm and its historical ambience but also offers the visitor every modern amenity ... from top-notch restaurants where you can ‘eat-as-much-as- you-can’ or ‘bring-your own-bottle’, to traditional bars, many of which offer live, foot-tapping, Irish music, good food or, if you prefer, a quiet corner.

The town’s bars and pubs are livelier than usual in May and November when Ennis hosts traditional Irish music festivals. Every March there is the acclaimed Ennis Book Club Festival which attracts not only home- grown authors and poets but also those with an international reputation. These literary and musical events are hosted in venues across the town with the most prestigious showcased in the town’s thriving theatre and arts centre, the Glór.

A short walk from Ardilaun, the Auburn Lodge has both a restaurant and a bar while, if you prefer an evening out in town, there is plenty of parking close to the many in-town restaurants and bars (some of which serve excellent food). On the other hand, you are but a phone-call away from the many restaurants offering a delivery service as well as the plentiful Takeaways. Snack, food and beverages can also be bought at the nearby Lidl.

Ennis is well served by public transport and, as well as ‘limited-stop’ bus services to and from Cork, Limerick and Galway (and, of course, Shannon Airport) there are local services to the Wild Atlantic Way at Kilrush, Kilkee, Lahinch and the Cliffs of Moher and, inland, to Bunratty Castle. Local timetables can be found online: www.buseireann.ie and www.dublincoach.ie (Bunratty / Limerick / Dublin).

County Clare’s abundance of attractions and locations is well-known and information on all of these, as well as many detailed maps of the area, is available at the excellent Tourist Information Centre, part of the Museum complex. Many day-trips can be arranged here such as the two-hour trip from Carrigaholt out into the Shannon estuary in search of the bottlenose dolphin, or the day-long excursion to the Cliffs of Moher and Doolin which includes a boat trip to one of the Aran Islands.

Alongside the many sightseeing opportunities, visitors can participate in a host of other activities that will suit both the energetic and those who gravitate to more relaxing pursuits ... everything from golf to fishing, horse-riding to surfing, hill walking to ambling by sea or lake.

And, should you want to get to know Ennis itself, there are various ‘mapped’ walking trails and daily walking tours (private and group tours can be arranged too) when you’ll hear tales of famine, murders and rebellions ... and pick up a nugget or two about Éamon de Valera, Ireland’s longest serving Taoiseach (Prime Minister) and local TD (Member of Parliament).
