Indawo
Welcome to Mûre Cottage; located about 7Km North East of La Roche Bernard near to the River Vilaine on the border between the Departements of Morbihan and Loire Atlantique in a small hamlet with about half a dozen other houses.

The house is a traditional stone cottage located in a conservation area twenty minutes’ walk to the Port Foleux on the river Vilaine. It has been fully renovated to a very high standard, whilst leaving many original features including a stone fireplace, exposed stone walls and wooden beams. It has been tastefully furnished and makes an ideal retreat for singles, couples or small families.
Guests should be aware that the ceiling beams on the ground floor are quite low and anyone taller than about 1.9m will need to be careful to avoid hitting their head.

The ground floor comprises a large lounge with fireplace, open plan to dining area and a modern kitchen. The kitchen leads into a pantry for food and wine storage and this, in turn, leads into a second bathroom with walk-in shower, WC and wash basin. There is also an automatic washing machine in the bathroom.
The first floor has two double bedrooms, a mezzanine with a sofa bed and a family bathroom.

The cottage has private parking and a secluded and sheltered south-facing terrace and private garden, perfect for relaxing in sun or shade during the day and, complete with a dining table that sits four, ideal for enjoying alfresco dining and barbecues.
There is also a small garage which can be used for storing bicycles or other sports equipment.

From the house, it is about a 15 minute walk along a bridleway to the river at Port Folleux.

Nivillac, Brittany, France

The nearest facilities are in the village of Nivillac which is about 4Km away and has a small supermarket and boulangerie, both of which are open on Sunday mornings. There is also a bar, brasserie, pizzeria and Post Office set around a square with a huge church in the middle.

La Roche Bernard is about 7Km away and has everything that you should need, including well stocked supermarkets, petrol station, patisseries, bars and restaurants. There is even a Michelin-starred restaurant.
The larger towns of Vannes and La Baule are about 45Km and 40Km respectively.

The Morbihan region of southern Brittany is a quiet fishing and farming region of France and is blessed with a beautiful and varied coastline and an interior of lush farmland, woods and moors to delight the country lovers. Brittany’s rolling hills, dense forests and lazy rivers, offer a variety of activities; from walking, riding, sailing and cycling to fishing, golf and canoeing.
The Grande Brière National Park, the second largest wetland in France (after The Camargue), and the salt marshes around Batz sur Mer are both amazing places for wildlife. There are Interesting towns such as La Baule, with its chic boutiques, health and beauty spas, fabulous beaches and promenade, the medieval walled city of Guerande and picturesque Vannes are a short drive away. A little further afield you can find the attractive cities of Nantes and Rennes and the artistic towns of Rochfort-en-Terre and La Gacilly. You can catch pleasure boats from Vannes for trips around the Gulf of Morbihan or even to Belle Île and other islands.

Overall, the weather in the region is very mild and temperate all year round, making it pleasant and not uncomfortable, particularly during the summer. July and August are very popular when there are numerous village fêtes, open air concerts and other events going on.
The spring weather in May and June, coupled with the long evenings make it an absolute delight chilling out on the terrace and enjoying a glass and a plate of the local produce. September and October are also really good times, since the weather is still pretty good, but it is not too busy. October is an excellent month for foraging for chestnuts and mushrooms (of which there are an abundance in the area!).

There are wonderful beaches nearby; ideal for swimming, wind or kite surfing, horse riding or just playing with a bucket and spade - the nearest beaches being at Pénestin (25Km) and Damgan (30Km).
There is a bay with a beach at Pont Mahe (27Km) which is relatively shallow, making it ideal for children and it’s also a very popular location for kite-surfing.
Alternatively, you can enjoy exciting walks or cycle rides along the wild and spectacular Atlantic coast (the aptly named Côte Sauvage).

The old town of La Roche Bernard has the accolade of "Petit Cité de Caractere" and is typically Breton in its architecture. It is a warren of tiny streets and quaint old buildings together with some fantastic views of the River Vilaine estuary. Below the old town, at river level, is the Vieux Port with its charm and a host of restaurants and bars.

I am Italian and I moved to the South-West of England in 1996 to be with my English husband. I am an artist and I work from my own studio designing and making architectural glass installations. I had completely re-built and renovated my house in Italy, but I had to sell it when I left for England and I was looking for another project that I could stamp my own taste and style onto. We had our honeymoon in La Roche Bernard and immediately fell in love with the location and environment, so when we returned a few years later and saw the house we decided to buy it. Since then, whenever we come here, we find that the tranquillity and change of culture just makes a complete break from our normal lives in England and we return relaxed and re-vitalised! We have some friends who introduced us to AirBnB and we thought that we would try it as a way of letting the house for a few weeks a year.
