The Hideaway is a delightful self-contained barn annex in a glorious rural location set in the heart of the rolling Devon countryside - equidistant from Exeter and Dartmoor. A stylish and comfortable countryside retreat for two seeking a secluded bolthole to recharge your batteries and perfectly located to explore all that Devon has to offer.

Set in 10 acres of private grounds including grassy meadows and woodland inhabited by deer, woodpeckers and owls. The Hideaway with its own entrance is attached to the end of a converted 17th century cob threshing barn where we live.

The annexe has a traditional rustic feel but with all the benefits of modern comforts. There is a newly fitted bathroom and kitchen with quality fixtures, fittings and appliances providing everything you need for a comfortable stay. With reclaimed oak flooring, comfy lounge seating, snug dining area, desk with WiFi, and flat screen TV you are well set-up for work or leisure, while the super comfy king size bed bedecked with soft velvet headboard, scatter cushions and luxury cotton bedding will ensure you'll enjoy a deep, restorative nights' sleep.

The kitchen is stocked with tea, coffee, sugar and fresh milk. There are a plethora of local farm shops and artesian businesses as well as Crediton’s fortnightly Farmers Market to purchase local produce to rustle up meals and snacks. If you’d rather not cook during your stay there are a number of good local traditional pubs including an award winning gastro pub and for special occasions - nearby Paschoe House' three-rosette restaurant offers elegant lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.

You will wake to the sound of bird song and guests are welcome to enjoy our extensive grounds that are surrounded by farmland and rolling Devonshire hills and a haven for wildlife. In view of the Hideaway's open stable door is a paddock where our three young Alpaca's live. Directly outside the Hideaway's two stepped entrance is a pretty terrace with lots of pots and a bistro table and chairs. A stones throw away across the terrace is a second patio area with garden furniture and gas barbeque which provides a perfect space to enjoy an alfresco breakfast or a relaxed cosy evening - star gazing with a glass or two under Devon's dark starry night sky.

Perfect for a long weekend, midweek break or working away home from home. Minimum stay 2 nights and discount for stays over 5 days.

Dog Policy - We have three young Alpacas (who are nervous of strange dogs) and we often have sheep and lambs grazing in the grounds so visiting dogs can only be accepted on a case by case basis and subject to an additional fee. Please message to discuss prior to making a booking.

Other things to note

The Hideway is located at Barn Orchard which is located slightly off the beaten track – accessed via a fairly long inclined unmade lane. The track can be bumpy with some potholes (so not ideal for lower sports cars) but the landscape and natural surroundings well worth it!

There is no street lighting but automatic external lights are activated once you enter the driveway which can be used to gain access to the property at night.

Copplestone, England, United Kingdom

Copplestone is situated right in the middle of Devon - a 10 minute drive west of the market town of Crediton and the Cathedral City of Exeter is 30 minutes away for shopping, museum, historic Quayside, Theatre and Cinemas.

A stone’s throw to the southwest is Dartmoor National Park and Exmoor to the north - a little farther away, both of which are a must for walkers and cyclists with plenty of paths and trails to explore.

We are 50 minutes from both the North, East and South coast beaches. Copplestone is served by the Tarka Line which connects Exeter and Barnstable and you can travel along the scenic route to Barnstable, where you can rent bikes and cycle the Tarka Trail route to the pretty estuary village of Instow or continue to the rugged coast and surf beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe on the North Devon coast. In the opposite direction but equally accessible is the lovely South Devon coast with Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands and Salcombe all delightful.

We are also close to several National Trust properties such as Castle Drogo, Knightshayes and Killerton and the spectacular Lydford Gorge nature reserve with its 30m waterfall.

There is a Post Office/Convenience store and Farm Shop in the village with larger supermarkets and facilities in Crediton. Due to the remote location of the property a car is essential.

I work for a children’s education charity, having moved to Devon with my husband John from Buckinghamshire to enjoy the coast and countryside. We are relishing our escape to the country and love being able to share our home and grounds with others by AirBnB hosting. Guests are welcome to come for a chat in the main house or garden if we are about, and hopefully either myself or John can provide answers to any questions & recommend things to do in beautiful Devon.
