Apho uza kuba khona

Fremont, Nebraska, United States

Near the edge of southwest Fremont, located along the Platte River. There are 4-5 other houses/cabins sharing the same lane that leads to our riverfront cabin. It's a private drive for those of us who live there.

Please contact me if you need anything. You may call, text, or message me. Thank you! Below are some frequently asked questions that you may want to know about before your arrival (also included in the Welcome binder in the cabin).

Question 1: I see you have 6 kayaks and 6 ores on the property. What is the situation for kayaking? Since it is a river, are there kayak landing spots further down that we would have to pick kayakers up at or are there other areas where kayaking can be done without the need for picking up kayakers at a certain location?

Answer: There are three options for kayaking.
a) Start at the cabin. Guests may kayak upriver as far as they wish (that's what my girls do, but it's not the easiest task due to the current). I personally don't like this option and have only done it twice. lol However, some people really enjoy the workout. When you've had enough hard work, enjoy kayaking back to the cabin with ease and relaxation.
b) Guests may begin at the cabin and kayak until the bridge that crosses the river on highway 77 (or an even closer pickup spot is one of the docks at Hormel Park). There is a spot or two where you can pick up kayaks with a vehicle. Feel free to explore these options ahead of time and see which best fits your needs. If all guests wish to kayak at the same time, it’s best to park a vehicle to the pick-up point before you begin.
c) My family likes to load up the kayaks and drive to a starting point (one option is about a 45minute-one hour kayak float - about a 10 minute drive. And the other option is about a 2-3 hour kayak float to the cabin - about a 20 minute drive, depending on how long we want to be on the river.) With this option, we need to call the landowner to see if it's alright for us to drop kayaks on his property (which has always been fine, but it's polite to check and notify.)
*One thing to consider when driving to a drop-off location is that one person needs to drive the vehicle back and won't be able to kayak with the group. My family asks a friend if they are willing to take us so they can drive the vehicle back when needed.
d) We also have inner tubes and one LARGE tube that has 5 or 6 seats (can't recall off-hand), two spots for coolers, and a large bench type seat with mesh netting in the center. It's also pretty fun. In the shed we store donut shaped inner tubes that are meant for one person.. These are just more options if someone would rather float on a tube.
**Another thing to consider before kayaking/tubing is if the river is really low. If that's the case, then you may need to get out of your kayak and pull it here and there... but generally, we're able to find a deeper channel to kayak. We find that the bluff side is generally deeper for at least the first half of the float when we begin from another location. Eventually, we work our way to the ‘cabin’ side, so we’re prepared to quickly get out with the strong current at the air-boat ramp location. Also, there are sandbars along the way to stop and take a break and walk around, if you wish.

Question 2: Do you offer assistance, such as contacting a landowner to drop kayaks/tubes and provide rides to location drop-offs?

Answer: Yes, If my schedule allows, I am more than happy to contact a landowner for guests and provide rides for a small fee to pay for my gas and time. $20 for the shorter trip, $30 for the longer trip. Feel free to reach out about this, if interested and I'll check my schedule to see if it works out.

Question 3: Will guests have access to the river for fishing?

Answer: Yes, this Airbnb is right on the river. Feel free to bring your own fishing poles. We have a dock (seasonal) and a sloping ramp that goes into the river. Another option is to sit on a chair wherever you wish. We do not have fish bait. Guests will need to bring some or purchase it at a close location (I will tell you where, if needed).

FYI - The river has a current, so guests may need to find their ideal location around the access points for fishing needs. I am happy to stop by to show you where we like to fish on our 400 foot access to the river if you wish. Just let me know - I don't want to intrude on your stay.
Again, guests may want to bring their own fishing poles. We have some in the garage on the shelf, but not exactly sure if they need some work to get set up right now at this moment (like bobbers or hooks). Feel free to check them out.
BTW - We are also within 5 minutes or less of Fremont State Lakes if that is something that interests your group for fishing needs.

Question 4: Are there any hiking trails close by?

a) Hormel Park/Ridge Road Park is super close to the cabin and is in a forested area, but does not have hills to climb. Riding a bicycle is a wonderful option as well. They have a cemented trail going to and through the park from the cabin. When leaving the cabin’s long lane to get to the road, guests will see the cement pedestrian/bike lane across the street. If guests turn right (south), they will be heading to the forested park area. If guests turn left (north), they will be heading to the beautiful Fremont State Lakes area. Both are within a mile or two from the cabin.
b) Johnson Lake is about a 15 minute drive. It is located next to Splash Station and a newly built playground. It has a cemented trail going around the lake, with bathrooms, and picnic tables, and bench seats. The community enjoys walks, runs, and bikes while there.
c) The Calvin Crest Camp area has trails to hike. It’s about a 7 minute drive from the cabin. I’ve never been there, but my daughter has hiked in that area and enjoyed it.
d) If guests want to drive longer distances, such as to Omaha, there are also hiking trails to check out.
e) If guests know of other areas close by, please let me know so I can add them to this list.

Personally, I just enjoy being at the cabin and sticking close to it. There’s plenty of relaxation and fun right here.
