Gliwice, Śląskie, Poland

Gliwice is a charming city soaked in history where you can feel influences from german, silesian, medieval Piast, modernist, communist era and polish culture and architecture. Nowadays it is a modern academic city of business and new technologies as well as vivid nightlife and pub scene in weekends. Our Kosciuszki Gliwice Centrum Apartment is located in strategic point between Old Town and Plac Grunwaldzki districts in recently renovated pre IIWW 1920's tenement house designed by renowned in Silesia region german architect Karl Schabik, responsible for Gliwice's XX century urbanization design and street arrangement, as well as for many buildings across the city. The location guarantees easy access to all essential shops, bakery, pharmacy, cafe's and restaurants, to green parks, and 10 minutes walk to the Gliwice historic Old Town Main Square full of pubs and restaurants. Directly by the building there is bus stop o A1 line which can take you quickly to all important locations in the City. Importantly our apartment is located just on the border of paid parking zone, so you can easily park your car for free in the street.

Shops/cafes nearby:
You are lucky! On the first floor of the building there is the best in town family run grocery store with the freshest fruits and vegetables, bread, eggs (ask for the "wiejskie jaja" for the freshest organic type of eggs, and "ogorek malosolny" for local speciality half pickled ground cucumbers, seasonally available), and diary products, as well as freshly smoked cold cuts. On the other side of the street there is another larger all-in-one store, 2 bakeries (I recommend the smaller Bogacki's warm fresh bread), as well as Bistro Gliwice and Bezova Cafe'. Żabka convenience store and Biedronka supermarket is located within 400-500 m distance.

For a morning run or evening walk I recommend going to beautifully arranged park Plac Grunwaldzki which is located just 350 m away. On the way you shall notice pre WWII round brick made building of Old Water Tower and small hidden in the trees historic Soviet Army Cemetery. In the northern-western direction from the apartment there is another green park Park Starokozielski with the worth seeing 1493 historic wooden church building.

Gliwice historic Main Square located in the heart of the old town and the adjacent streets are the place where in the several dozen pubs and restaurants all the nightlife takes place, especially on the weekend. You can reach the square in 10-13 minutes walk via Daszyńskiego street, continuing through Siemińskiego street (a couple of nice cafe's are located there), entering the Plebańska street (pubs Takk, Koneser, restaurant Bo Grill and Tito Tito pizza). In the main square I recommend Desa gastro-drink-bar, Olio neapolitan pizza. The closely located Paris Paris french bistro is also charming. If you look for "bavarian style" beer it's worth visiting Mini Brewery Majer in Studzienna Street for the freshly brewed beer and delicious beer-pretzels. For craft beer the best place is multi tap IBU on Matejki street with a wide selection of quality craft beers to try.

Local food:
Bar Teatralny, ul. Kościuszki 12 (450 m) - the best polish/silesian "mama's home style" local casual food experience. A place known by all inhabitants of the city. All specialities including Pierogi Ruskie (famous cheese and potato dumplings) , Kluski Śląskie and Rolada z Czerwoną Kapustą (delicate silesian noodles with rolled stuffed beef meet with red boiled cabbage side - delicious), Kotlet Schabowy (pork cutlet), Żurek (sour soup). Everything is freshly made, delicious, authentic and relatively cheap. It is the type of place where you seat together with other unknown people in the same table (which is restricted now according to the Covid measures). Unfortunately the staff may not speak English, but in case of any problems you are welcome to call me, and I will try to help.

Fine dining:
Wine Bar Lofty, Zygmunta Starego 24A (850 m)

Bonus: experience the communist era architecture and space arrangement with airy spaces and a lot of green areas, in a walk among 12 storeys prefabricated buildings on Osiedle Wojska Polskiego (1100 m, after Park Starokozielski). You may also consider Osiedle Kopernika (4500 m drive) or Osiedle Sikornik starting from Kosów street (1.8 km) and walking up the main alley - this is my favorite.
