Taos artist Rod Goebel designed this sanctuary-like main residence and guesthouse in a picture-perfect rural setting with fenced acreage, attached covered patio, outdoor grill & steps from your "under the stars" jacuzzi. A perfect spot to rest and retreat. We do not offer a full kitchen so please acquaint yourself with the cooking facilities in this listing. Our Covid protocols are extensive including several UVC lamp treatments and viral disinfectant + thorough cleaning between all stays.

Indawo
El Santurario, a traditional adobe guesthouse on six+ acres (with owners residence), is the ultimate New Mexican architectural experience with many cool features including recycled barn wood doors, brick floors, in-floor heat, Spanish tile and lots of wood detail. The bathroom features all organic toiletries, double rain showers, a soaker tub (jets don't function), double sinks, robes, sandals and towels. Cooking facilities include a kitchenette and patio gas charbroiler described below.

The property hosts a separate screened-in adobe lounge with 2 futons to take in the exquisite, unobstructed panoramic Sangre de Cristo mountains and the valley below. The backyard has a 3 seater jacuzzi and assorted chairs and chaise lounges for star gazing or relaxing. There are numerous established trees and shrubs surrounding the home offering shade and greenery in the summer, vibrant colors in the fall and a varied landscape in winter. There is a seasonal, spring-fed stream that may flow thru the land depending on the snow run off. We have an outdoor fire pit near the spa for use only when fire restrictions permit. Please check with me first.

For those guests planning to cook at home, we do not have a full kitchen so we offer a variety of quality kitchen appliances. There is a butcher block table to use for prepping food in addition to cutting boards of various sizes. There is a full size refrigerator/freezer, Mr. Coffee & French press & Tea Kettle & Bagel Toaster & Microwave. The Ninja 3 in 1 Cook System can be used as a crock pot, saute' or cook station or baking appliance or use the portable convection oven for broiling or baking, electric grill or a 14" electric skillet so you can make just about any meal desired! If you choose to cook on our charbroiler located just outside your front door, we offer different grill plates and a dome for melting cheese on your burgers and there's an additional gas burner on the right side of the charbroiler and a lid to keep everything hot till meal time. **If you need a full kitchen, we recommend you seek a different listing. If you want help meal planning for an extended stay, just call me. The home has sharp knives, cooking utensils, silverware, wine and beer openers for your use. We feature German non-stick, non-toxic frying pans and quality pots.

During cold nights, the fireplace is an extra bonus & heat source. There's an on-off fan switch (where the living room light panel is) to bring the hot air from your fire into the home once the fire is going strong. There are extra space heaters in the closet and one that stays in the bathroom.

All seasons at El Santuario have their own unique charm, from the deep, white silence of winter, to the lush, flower filled days of summer, or the dynamic colors of fall. You are welcome to spend all your time here or make it your headquarters while exploring the beauty and charm of Taos. Skiing is just up the road at the Taos Ski Valley as well as summer hikes and other activities as scheduled.

During cold nights, the fireplace is fantastic. There's an on-off fan switch (where the living room light panel is) to bring the hot air from your fire into the home once the fire is going strong. There's a swamp cooler in the closet, if you want a second one, just ask.

**I ask as a special favor to keep the front door closed because this is a rural environment and little field mice can enter when the door is left open and unattended for any length of time.

**Current NM covid regs prohibit other, non-reserved visitors from visiting during your stay. Thanks for this consideration.

We pride ourselves on our standards for disinfecting and cleaning between guests, and provide a top quality hypoallergenic mattress and linens with organic bath and kitchen products. We are on well water so we provide a Berkey water filter which can be refilled during your stay. Just remove the top portion of the water filter & lid, fill from the sink and replenish your clean water supply.

We hope you enjoy the hand crafted architecture, local artwork and the abundance of plant and bird life on the acreage that gives El Santuario its very special charm and makes it the perfect hideaway for deep rest and tranquility. Arroyo Seco is a neighboring town that is a sweet art village with organic groceries and to go foods at the Sol Food Market and shops and nice restaurants -- Aceq or Sabroso for delicious, chef prepared meals. The north area of town is beautiful and lush having the most water in Taos with spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range and it's only a short drive to town or shuttle to the Ski Valley where year round activities are scheduled.

We have eliminated tourist maps and handouts per Airbnb's policies due to covid. The Taos Visitor Center is a great resource for any guests looking for such information or look online.

Though my home is nearby, rest assured that our guarantee of your complete privacy is a personal commitment during your stay. We have a new dog who may occasionally bark when she hears a car door or voices, but we are in the process of training her to know the difference between a guest arriving or leaving and all others. As soon as we become aware of her barking, she is being brought inside so as not to become any imposition on your stay. She is not in the backyard which is the space that you will be enjoying during your stay.

For those guests planning to cook at home, we do not have a full kitchen so we offer a variety of quality kitchen appliances as listed previously for your use. There is a butcher block rolling dumbwaiter to use for prepping food in addition to cutting boards of various sizes. The Ninja 3 in 1 Cook System can be used as a crock pot, saute' station, or baking appliance or using the convection oven, electric griddle or 14" electric skillet, you will find you can make just about anything! If you choose to cook on our charbroiler located just outside your front door, we offer different grill plates to use for your protein and there's an additional gas burner on the right side of the charbroiler. **If you need a full kitchen, we recommend you seek a different listing. If you want help meal planning for an extended stay, just call me.

The home has sharp knives, cooking utensils, silverware, wine and beer openers for your use. We feature non-stick, non-toxic frying pans and quality pots.

It is my deepest desire that you have everything you need to enjoy your visit, rest deeply, connect and take in all that Taos offers. Our dedicated and sincere hospitality is always just a call or text away.

Ukungena kondwendwe
We'll leave the front door open with instructions about the home sent as email on the Airbnb platform. If you would prefer this to be a text to your cell phone, just let me know. We are encouraging self-check in for your and our safety. Park in a gravel slot just left of the big tree in the middle of the driveway. There is a flagstone walkway adjacent the parking area that leads to the back of the property where the patio and home will be found. Firewood is always available in a large rolling tub outside your front door. Roll it inside to avoid the spiders. More firewood is just outside the bedroom door.

An extra space heater and a swamp cooler are found in the closet with a smaller heater In the bathroom. If you are doing a longer stay, please let us know if you want your trash dumped. Extra trash bags are found where the kitchen appliances are - in the closet door adjacent the bedroom. Organic coffee, spices and non-toxic pans and non stick cooking utensils are offered in the kitchen area.

Check in varies between 3 - 4:30 and check out by 10:30 am and we do the cleaning! Your stay will include use of the home, outdoor seating and garden areas, jacuzzi, and amazing views from the screened in adobe lounge above the greenhouse. You are welcome to walk the land anytime. Coyotes can be heard nightly if you leave the living room window cracked open.

On check out if you would just please open the living room window and leave the UV air filter on and you are free to use it during your stay. See the button on top labeled UV to engage that function.

Please google the Taos local restaurant info on who's open, their menus and hours of operation. We love Medleys (around the corner), Rancho Plaza Grill, Orlandos, Pizzanos and Outback Pizza, and De La Tierra for dining - inside the El Monte Sagrado Resort.

Need more pillows, blankets, kitchen accessories - No Problem! Just text and we'll do everything we can to ensure you have what you need for a great stay!

Ezinye izinto ekufuneka uziqaphele
The weather in Taos can be unpredictable so do check the forecast and bring appropriate shoes and clothing. Skin and eye protection is recommended for this altitude even in winter. Drinking lots of water calms the affects of the altitude and its best to acclimate yourself before you get into any heavy exercise if you come from lower elevations. We provide some natural altitude medicine (Altitude Boost in the kitchen cabinet) if you should notice headaches, sleeplessness, out of breath or sluggishness which can be common symptoms of the affects of altitude (7200 ft). Best to just rest up a bit if you're experiencing these symptoms, drink plenty of water and soon you'll be back on your feet.

Activities in the area include breathtaking hiking tails, horsebackriding, river rafting, farmer's markets, winter and early spring skiing and snowboarding, visits to the Taos Pueblo, Rio Grande bridge viewing, shops, museums, galleries, lectures, movies, concerts, bars & restaurants. Taking the high road to Taos from the south is a beautiful drive with many memorable landscapes. The Saint Francis of Assisi church at the south end of Taos is worth a visit to see the beautiful carved alters, statues and simplicity so characteristic of NM churches.

Both Ojo Caliente Mineral Spa or Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe are about one hour to an hour and a half away and offer exquisite spa services, food (much better at 10 Waves), and some serious rejuvenation for body, mind and spirit. There are also a host of therapists offering body work in Taos.

The hydrotherapy spa is just steps from your front door and has a lid that rolls so its easy to partially remove from the spa for use. The temp can go as high as 104 degrees and we'll set it warm-hot for your stay unless you know you won't be using it.

**We do add chlorine that will dissipate with the lid open. if it smells of chlorine, remove half the lid and press jets so that it won't be too strong when you're ready to get in. Leaving the lid off also lowers the water temp depending on the season, so just do this for 10 minutes for optimal results. The spa is professionally maintained but we are unable to get pro cleaning on Saturday or Sundays. There are extra towels for use of the spa, and if you're doing a long stay, all products and towels can be replaced - just let us know.

I love the garden, birds, nature in all its forms. I love spaciousness and beauty in and outside the home. The skies and light in New Mexico called to me deeply and the peace and tranquility I have found on my land here is unmatched. I love to cater to people and I work on many different projects, but I will always make my guests a top priority. I can be hands on or afford you the privacy and space you may need to let your hair down and get into the Taos flow which is relaxed and softer than city life.
