Kiplings Gardens were once part of The Elms, where Rudyard Kipling lived from 1897 to 1902. It's situated just a 15 mins walk from where you're staying. You can't miss it on your way to the village. Kipling rented the house for 3 guineas a week and it was here that he wrote Stalky & Co, Kim and some of his famous Just So Stories.

You can join the Under Cliff Walk from Rottingdean. Just cross over the Coast Road and walk towards the beach. It's a flat walk which follows the beach and the white cliffs. Heading West, it will take you to Brighton Marina and eventually on to Brighton. Heading East, it will take you to Saltdean. Excellent for walking, jogging and cycling. An invigorating experience with dramatic scenery at any time of the year. Refreshments available at Brighton Marina, Rottingdean and Saldean. A must!

An old English village Church full of history. The church is built of flint, with stone dressings and a tiled roof and said to date back to Saxon times. Lovely stained-glass window. Located at the Green at the bottom of the road.

Lovely pub just off the sea front in Rottingdean village. Great beer, lovely food and vegetarian friendly, too. Balcony upstairs with great view especially at sunset. There's also a function room you can book.

Getting Around

From here you can catch buses to Brighton. 12, 12a, 14, 27. You can also catch the the 12X which is an express bus that will get you into Brighton in 2 stops. Eastbound all stops to Eastbourne Pier. You can also catch the 13X from here which stops off at Beach Head. Sundays and every day in high season.
