Beaches
This is the closest (and some said best) beach area to The Lighthouse. If you're a big walker like me (or you hate looking/ paying for parking) and try to clock as many steps a day as possible it's just a bit over a mile down Drake's Island Road and there is a cross walk in front of Dollar General. It's very residential and not full of food vendors and gift shops like the other beach areas.

Shopping
Somehow I always forget to bring something with me to Maine and I'm so thankful I can count on my next door neighbor, Dollar General to rescue me. Food supplies, clothing items, sunscreen, personal items, toys and games, even beer & wine! Recently I needed a birthday card and voila I got one for 50 cents. I bet you can't go one day of your trip without walking over- and give yourself a time and dollar limit because I get lost browsing the aisles of bargains.
