This is an easy to access beach. It is very safe for young children and has a comfortable grass patch and white sand. Unfortunately, dogs are not allowed. There are many local restaurants nearby.

Hilversum is a nearby city that boasts all the shops and restaurants that you could need. It is a 15 minute cycle from our home, and the same time in a car. Parking is expensive and it is not pleasant driving a car into Hilversum. There is a ring road around the city that moves in 1 direction.

City/town information
Utrecht is my personal favourite city in The Netherlands. It is small enough to walk comfortably in a day. It has many quaint canals, shops, restaurants, bars and a bustling night life. There are many museums and walking tours that are sure to peak everyones interest.

Trains
Trains are reliable between the airports and all big cities. Trainfare is not the cheapest. If you are planning to stay a while, it is handy to buy a OV chipboard from the cashiers at the station. It will cost you a EUR 20 deposit, but you can have the returned, if you return the card. Not only will you save on the paper ticket charge, but you get to use it on trams, buses, metro (underground) and of course the trains. Kids under 12 can travel free, but you need to register them. Speak to a cashier at the station for assistance or you will need to buy the children a rail runner card.

Buy fresh produce from the market
There is a fresh produce market Wed & Sat in Hilversum and on Thursday, in Loosdrecht. You will find many tasty "deals" available. The Hilversum Saturday market is the best of the 3. You will find fruit, veg, meat, fish, bread, cheese, treats and more

Expect all weather!
During the months March to November we advise to pack clothes for Spring, Summer & Autumn. During summer a light jacket will suffice, but sometimes we can have a wind that is chilling. In winter, you will need a good quality waterproof, water resistant winter jacket will make you comfortable.

Dutch people are very direct
Dutch people are quite direct, and many other cultures may find it rude. Try to not be offended, it is not their intention.
Dutch people are of the most culturally tolerant people that I have met. Intolerance towards race and culture is not acceptable in general but less so in the Netherlands. Dutch people value their personal space, so do not stand too close, keep at least arms distance. Eye contact is important, most people remove their sunglasses to talk.
