Wine scene
Le Chai au Quai serves as a workshop for tiny production 'specials'. Here Bordeaux-born, Haut-Brion-trained Jean-Marc Sauboua, his second in command Mark Hoddy and the talented team push forward the frontiers of winemaking and challenge age-old traditions. They are happy to break the sacred appellation rules, thereby sacrificing a fancy name on the label in favour of capturing outstanding 'Grand Cru' flavour in the bottle.
What makes them different from any other chateau visit ? Every wine from here is a little masterpiece, handcrafted from tiny parcels of amazing grapes that the team searches out. There are no strict rules to follow – they are happy to give their winemakers the freedom to make the wines how they want in the pursuit of excellence and perfection
