Drive in food on the gourmet side. They use real ice cream for milk shakes and other ingredients that seem to be a notch or two above your average drive in. Priced accordingly.

My favorite craft/micro brew downtown, based on beer alone. Kitchen had not been opened up yet my last time there. Final Draft Brewing Company may have more food and is catty-corner across intersection.

Close by but overlooked by tourist. This is the place to see salmon if they are running and the swimming hole to cool off in during the summer. If you hike down to the creek, steer clear of the poison oak.

1.55 miles past Clear Creek Gorge Overlook on the left is the Reading's Bar historical marker. It marks the location of California's second gold strike after Sutter's Mill. You can see the entire area is covered in dredge tailings. Everything was dredged, even the the mining town of Horsetown located somewhere north of the road. So complete was the dredging, the exact location of the town is unknown. No pictures of the town exist. The Shasta Historical Society has a bounty for anyone that can find a historical photo of the town.
