Food scene
One of the best places to eat in the Eden Valley, it's well worth booking a table during your stay. The crown is a 10 minute drive from the lodge and offers a variety or pub/restaurant dishes and is renowned locally for its excellent Fish and Chips as well as a fantastic specials board. This is a family-run Free House with excellent ales and a wide choice of spirits and soft drinks. Call on 01768 870710 to book.
If visiting at the weekend it would be a great opportunity to visit the local area before popping in for refreshments. Please see other things to do in and around Kirkoswald covered in this guidebook.
To visit, head Left out of the Site gates, heading South towards Penrith. Take your first left (just over a mile from site). Follow the signs for Lazonby. Head into Lazonby and turn Left at the road end. Follow the road through and out of the village towards Kirkoswald. Once in the village of Kirkoswald, follow the road round to the left and over the small bridge past the small village shop onto the village square where there is ample on road parking. The Crown Inn will be on your left. If The Crown Inn has no availability during your stay The Featherston Arms in the village is also popular with visitors.

The train stations has Direct links to Carlisle, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Leeds. This Historic Settle to Carlisle railway takes in some breath taking views including the stunning Ribblehead Viaduct. Train tours can be booked in advance from the Settle to Carlisle Historic rail website or standard tickets can be purchased on board.
