A sprawling 1000 acre estate that’s open to the public with panoramic views of the Catskill and Berkshire mountains due to its impressive 1200 ft elevation (the highest point in the region!). This historic property was once owned by Chauncey Devereux Stillman, an investor and philanthropist with a passion for nature, beauty, and proper stewardship of the land. The gorgeous estate features meticulously maintained gardens and trails, including a reflecting pool, Cupid fountain, goldfish pond with water lilies, stunning peacocks, and a beech tree “tunnel.” Tours of the main house and carriage house are also available. Bring a picnic and enjoy the very best that nature has to offer!
The estate is open June through September on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from noon until 5pm. Tickets are $15 per adult and free for children under 12. Tickets are best purchased in advance through their website: wethersfield.org

A small sandy beach with plenty of picnic spots (both shaded and sunny), grills, and personal watercraft rentals as well as public restrooms and a snack shack make this the perfect spot to spend a warm summer day with the family. Head into quaint New Preston for lunch/dinner or some upscale shopping to complete your outing. Located just 21 minutes from Cornwall Cottage.

While you’re certainly deep in the countryside at Cornwall Cottage, it can be a relief to know that grocery essentials are just a 4 minute drive away at Cornwall Market in the center of Cornwall Bridge. And within a 20 minute driving radius of Cornwall Cottage, there are 2 local markets as well as several supermarkets including Aldi. So don’t stress if you forgot that key ingredient to make a favorite vacation dish - everything you could possibly need to make your culinary dreams come true is closer than you think!
A 15 minute drive down Route 7 will bring you to the IGA in Kent where you will find a more traditional grocery store with all the usual suspects as well as a healthy dose of gourmet offerings.
