I recommend stopping in Garberville or packing your own groceries before you head down to the cove. The General store has basic grocery needs if you forget something, but they may not have all that you are looking for. There is no hard liquor sold in the cove other than at the bar, so make sure to grab your cocktail needs prior.

The weather is typically cooler in the evenings. Some days will be sunny and warm enough for shorts but make sure to pack warm clothing year round.

Having binoculars will come in handy if you want to try and spot whale spouts in the spring or watch for birds and other wildlife. My husband and I like to find the Brown Pelicans and watch for them to make their impressive dives into schools of fish.

If you plan to golf please bring your own golf clubs with you.

There are Black Bears in the Cove and they will get into trash left outside or in your car so please do your part in not attracting bears.

When you drive to the Shelter Cove for your first time you may be surprised at the curvy and winding road. It is around 45 minutes to travel from Redway to Shelter Cove. Take your time, make sure your brakes are good, and pull over to let the local pass you by. Avoid traveling at night if you are not a confident driver as there are no street lights!
