Amsterdam Noord feels a bit like the Brooklyn of NYC, a bit rough, mixed, but has a lot of nice places. You go there by metro (north-south line) or 5 min free ferry from central station. Nice places are the ‘van der pekstraat’ ‘Nieuwerdammerdijk’ , in the area of FC arena (movie theatre and cafe) you will find great cafes.

One of our favorite streets is de ‘Jan evertsenstraat’ this ends in the ‘de clerqstraat’ when this ends you can go the the right to the Bilderdijkstraat or to the left en then you are walking to Westerpark. From the bilderdijkstraat you can also walk to the city center or via the kinderstraat en jan pieter Heijestraat (also very nice) to the Vondelpark.

This is outside the city, you can have a day cycle trip via Amsterdam-North or go by car or public transport. Their are a lot of nice small villages here like Monnickendam, broek in waterland and Volendam.
