Food scene
The Theatre Royal Hotel in Kumara, is the West Coast's only fully restored gold miners' hotel, and once world-renowned theatre. Worth a stop to quench your thirst and grab a bite to eat.
The West Coast Wilderness Trail passes through Kumara Junction it's a nice spot to dip into the cycle trail. Do as much or as little as you like. I've done a 40km circuit with beautiful scenery that was just right for the afternoon.

Spectacular scenery, with mountains on both sides. Half way between the West Coast and the East Coast, Arthur's Pass is the perfect spot to spend a few days.
The longer you stay the more you discover. Hikes galore, from easy to difficult. There are a couple of superb easy hikes around the town itself. View the Kea. Avalanche Peak is also accessible from the township.
The Department of Conservation is on the main through road, helpful staff will point you in the right direction for the many hikes that are around, and knowledgeable of weather conditions.
Fabulous scenic driving, stop and check out Dobsons Nature walk, the Viaduct, the Otira Hotel, the Bealey Hotel, and it's oh so close to Castle Hill.
Grab a coffee in the General Store or a bite to eat at the Wobbly Kea.
