It is my favorite museum in Basel. Jean Tinguely is usually spotted at the Tinguely fountain in the center, but visiting the museum is a much more intense experience. The collection of machines in that one space is truly mind-blowing and definitely worth visiting.
Even for kids it is interesting how the machines are moving and making sounds and lights.... Just amazing

Even for kids it is interesting how the machines are moving and making sounds and lights.... Just amazing
Special interest museum features a historic variety of play objects including dolls, dollhouses, Teddy bears, carrousels and miniatures from all over the world.
Recommendable for kids.

The satisfaction with the visit varies with the interest one has. However Renzo Piano's wonderful building, the views framed by the windows on three sides, the sculpture gardens, and the carefully curated objects from the permanent collection, always make the visit deeply pleasurable. Like most attractions in Basel, is easy to reach by public transportation: Bus 6, drops you right at the door.

Parks & Nature
It contains a nice park with lots of flowers and plants including fruit and berry trees.
Special: very beautiful cafe in the old villa in the park (ask for the people in order to show you the location).
The entrance to the park is free.

TierPark Lange Erlen can be accessed with Bus #36 Kleinhunigen (exit Lange Erlen). Walk through the overpass, then towards the right and through the trees to the park entrance. This park was mostly quiet on my visit with only a few other visitors walking around.
For a free park, this place is pretty well maintained and it has a nice number of rare animals (cats, pigs, fox, black swans) to other standard zoo animals, like monkeys, deer, buffalo, chickens, fowl, moose, peacock, donkeys, a honeybee display and more. Many of these animals can be seen in as close as possible to normal, natural settings.
You can as well do a long walk along the river Wiese which is the border to Germany.

Because of its good drinks and as well for the people (young people don't go there). It is a nice bar which we defenately recommend. If you prefer a nice cafe there is another entrance which leads you to the 1st floor of cafe Huguenin which is as well a very nice address in Basel.
