La Jolla Bay is a Marine Protected Area that is home to a thriving ecosystem that boasts a high concentration of sea life, has a natural boat launch, which allows safe ocean entry year-round, and is famous for its Sea Caves and Marine Reserve. No experience is required. Great for all skill levels. Your guide will kick things off with a paddle tutorial on the beach. If surf exists, we will help push your kayak through any breakers. As we paddle through La Jolla’s Marine Reserve keep an eye out for Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphin and Gray whales in the fall/winter. Note: We cannot guarantee sea life. If conditions are safe, we will help guide your kayak into Emerald Cave. If it's not safe to enter Emerald Cave, we will still paddle out & explore La Jolla's World-Famous Marine Reserve. Update: We have been OPEN and SAFE since May, 2020 The La Jolla Ecological Reserve is the premiere kayak and snorkeling spot on California’s coast. To fully interact with all the amazing sea life in the area, our kayak and snorkel tour is a great option. The coolest part bout this experience is you get to see what's above and below the water! We kayak over by Sunny Jim's cave, where your guide will anchor the kayaks together. While snorkeling we see sea lions, seals, bat rays, Garibaldi (Nemo's Cousin), and sometimes sea turtles. Note: we cannot guarantee what sea life or any sea life we will encounter. La Jolla Bay is the premier snorkeling spot along Southern California's coast, but there are days that the visibility might only be 5 feet or can be as good as 50 feet. This tour is 2 hours and typically we snorkel for 20-30 minutes, max. Being able to swim is advised. If conditions are not safe enough to anchor the kayaks at Sunny's Jim's cave we will instead snorkel the kelp forest. Note: We DO NOT kayak or snorkel inside any of any caves on this tour. This area is covered by the ocean half of the day- during high tide- and the pools are exposed at low tide, which creates a unique, yet fragile, habitat for lots of small invertebrates and fish! At our meeting spot, I will give you a brief talk on safety and tide pool rules, as all San Diego tide pools have a strict "no collection" policy. Once we understand how to tide pool safely and respectfully, the adventure begins! Your excursion starts with a short orientation at our office, where I will show on a nautical chart, the area covered during the trip, describing the types of whales and dolphins, as well as other marine life you are likely to see, and where you might see each type. When everyone is comfortably seated on board, we will motor slowly out of the basin, and enjoy a "warm up" stop by the bait receivers to see our California sea lions, and a multitude of different birds. Then the boat will pick up speed for an exhilarating high speed run out to where the whales and dolphins are usually found. Once we have located the animals we slowly approach them, so as not to disturb them. Quite often the dolphins will come directly up to the boat and begin to surf our wake or bow ride in front of us. Whales are observed from a safe distance (as required by law), but still close enough to hear them breathing! What a wonderful sound that is! As the boat heads back to the harbor you can be sure that you have had the experience of a lifetime, one that we hope will be the highlight of your stay in San Diego. We will be snorkeling in Mission Bay, a calm, flat body of water that feeds into the Pacific Ocean. Being in the bay, we typically encounter small fish, interesting algae, and lots of invertebrates, including sea slugs, octopus, urchins, and sea stars! After a brief safety and snorkel etiquette talk, we will explore the area for one hour. I will point out and provide detailed information on the flora and fauna we encounter during the experience! *If you are a non-swimmer, feel free to book a private tour and/or message me to see if this is the right experience for you. Sometimes guests can be overwhelmed by the water, but this is the perfect place to learn! Decompress and enjoy an afternoon by the water with relaxing music and a paint brush. Miranda, a skilled art instructor will guide you step by step through a Bob Ross style acrylic painting. You will learn the basics of acrylic painting, such as color matching, manipulating a paintbrush, visualizing perspective, and more. The class will start with a brief introduction and then we will hop right into the painting! Throughout the class you will have time to take breaks while your paint is drying, so there is opportunity to go to the bathroom, or stretch your legs if necessary. At the end of the class, you'll have learned techniques from a professional artist, and you will be able to leave with your very own finished painting to hang at home! Remember, there are no mistakes in painting, only happy accidents.

Guests will be transported from a centrally-located site in San Diego county to the international border in San Ysidro. With a Permit application already completed by host from information provided by guests, crossing the border will be cut from a potential 1 hour to about 10 minutes. Along with a brief historical account and cultural explanation, the experience will include a visit to the Friendship Park, a stroll through historic Revolucion street, as well as a the visit to several iconic areas of the city which will lead to a better understanding of its development. Visitors will also explore a colorful local market, where they will interact with local vendors, learn about, and have the opportunity to sample indigenous foods. The tour will conclude with a visit to a local food court where guests will have the opportunity to savor Tijuana's fusion cuisine, also known as Baja-Med. Finally, they will be driven to the international border, picked up and taken back to the original meeting location in San Diego. The host will escort guests the entire time. You will help us free fly our falcons on the cliffs of La Jolla at the Torrey Pines Gliderport, a National Historical Place and beloved landmark. In our Experience, offered through Total Raptor Experience San Diego, you'll learn how to call and release one of our trained birds using a falconry glove, and admire their aerial skills while they soar above the cliffs. You'll get an up-close and personal view of their mastery of flight as they perform simulated hunting behaviors, swooping, ground-skimming and diving at high speed after a moving target. At the same time we will discuss raptor flight styles and how they contribute to the diverse ecologies of different types of hawks and falcons. There will be plenty of time for questions and pictures with our birds. My hope is to send you home with a new, or perhaps renewed, love for these majestic predators and the environment.
