What we’ll do You will create two of your own highly decorative and colorful Lisbon mosaic sardines, 19 x 4 cm. Sardines are the unofficial mascot of Lisbon...you'll see them everywhere! It is only fitting we use tile; the Portuguese have a love affair with tile, "azulejos". First, you decide on your design. Then, you will learn how to cut tiles, how to lay them for the greatest effect, and how to fix and grout. Materials used will be antique Portuguese and contemporary tiles, mirror or broken dishes. At the end of the workshop, your handmade souvenirs are ready to go home with you. Why make two? Many students create one for themselves, to remember the beauty and magic of Lisbon, and the other for a loved one back home: a priceless piece of art that could not be bought in any store! No holiday in Portugal is complete without a visit to the Berlengas Islands. And there truly is no better way to discover these islands off Portugal than on a boat and kayak day trip from Lisbon. I'll pick you up in the center of Lisbon, and drive us to the coastal town of Peniche where we'll hop on a boat to enjoy a ride on the 'high seas' to the Island. When we reach our paradise, we will explore the nature, fauna, and flora of the Berlenga Grande Island. You will learn about the myths and legends linked to the multiple shipwrecks around these islands, which have made this an incredible playground for scuba diving nowadays. After our walk we stop at the Fortress of São João Batista and, depending on your preference, we can visit the caves and circle the islands by kayak or onboard a comfortable glass-bottom boat. Don't forget to bring a bathing suit. Now is time to relax a little at the beach for a light picnic snack and have some fun at the beach before the boat ride back to Peniche. To complete our Berlengas Islands day trip experience, we'll pass by the Peniche Fortress (Old political prision), Cabo Carvoeiro, and Baleal beach before we return to our original meeting point in the center of Lisbon. I'll share some of our traditions and culture and a brief introduction to the history of Fado, to set the mood for our evening. The LisboaLove Fado takes place on an exclusive venue. This will be followed by a 40-minute tribute concert to Amalia Rodrigues, Portugal’s most famous and well-loved Fado singer. I will add some commentary during the concert to explain the essence and meaning of Amalia’s Fado and why it is such a huge part of the Portuguese soul and culture. Since it is afternoon you may have walked a lot in our hilly city already, so we'll serve a snack of traditional petiscos. There's no Fado without some wine and olives too. This is a small group (up to 5 people) experience. I'll get you in your hotel in Lisbon and we will go to Cascais where we will start the ride. Our e-bikes will take us effortlessly to all the amazing sights in Cascais and Sintra. We will go from Cascais Market and up the Sintra forest through a path that you will see yourself in the middle of the countryside, with sheep, horses and local vegetable gardens. We will then go through Quinta do Pisão and up the Sintra Forest to reach Peninha Convent in the top with a 360 degrees view of the region. We will then go down to Guincho Beach where we can pause for a relaxing lunch (not included), then to the touristic but amazing Boca do Inferno, Cascais old town and back to where we started. We will have a deep experience of all of the best that this region can offer. We will end the tour in Cascais train station, where a 35 minute train (EUR 2.00 per person) or private transportation (taxi, uber, etc., around 30 minutes to Lisbon) are not included. We are going to hike Pico mountain! Conquer the highest point of Portugal as well as the third highest point of the Mid Atlantic Ridge. Let the magnificent view on top of the mountain make you feel reborn. We will start our adventure at the first signs of day light to reach the top around midday. After a lunch in the crater with a view to make all of us silent, we will start the descent. During the hike I will give you more information about the geological formations, about the formation of the island and the vegetation we see. No matter what the view will be on top, if it is now a clear sky or clouds, I can assure you that you will experience one of the best moments in your life when you put your hands on the very top of the mountain.
