If you are arriving around the 5pm rush hour you might want to consider going to Harbor Seafood rather than sitting in traffic for an hour. Their chargrilled seafood is very tasty, particularly the Red Fish and the Cajun potatoes are a good choice for a side.

If you are driving in from I-10 East Phil's Marina Café in Slidell, LA has outstanding fried seafood. It is as good as any of the seafood restaurants in New Orleans. It is 30 to 40 minutes from New Orleans, but if you can catch it on the way in or out of the city it is worth planning for.

There are many more popular fine restaurants in New Orleans that everyone knows about like Commander's Palace, but Brigtsen's is a unique experience. If you like Shrimp I highly recommend the Shrimp and Zucchini Bisque as an appetizer, and the pecan pie is my personal favorite for dessert. It's all good!

Sightseeing

If you don't feel like a boat ride through one of the swamps you can walk down wooden piers at the Jean Lafitte National Park. It is only about a 30 minute drive from the house, and you are safely away from the alligators, etc. La Familia Restaurant is also nearby if you are ready to eat when you leave.
