Hometown atmosphere and unlike chain donut stores every donut is homemade there on site. They have a drive-up window as well. And the owner and his dedication to customer service is bar none!

Crawdaddy’s West Side Grill is like a slice of New Orleans right in the middle of Cookeville. A local favorite in both the dining and nightlife sectors, Crawdaddy’s offers a diverse menu and lots of outdoor seating in the courtyard and on the balcony of its 100-year-old brick building. “Our patio and courtyard are a big draw, and our building has a lot of character,” says Drew Blalock, who owns Crawdaddy’s with business partner Blue Hensley. “We play a lot of up-tempo ’60s music, and we’re known for some of the best food, service and atmosphere in the area.”
Though many entrées are Cajun-inspired, Crawdaddy’s doesn’t limit itself to Cajun fare. “Our menu has several high-end items right down to chicken wings,” Blalock says. “It may look upscale, but we’re anything but stuffy. We have a Cheers-type atmosphere. We do our best to build relationships with our customers.” Menu favorites include appetizers such as Gator Bites (Cajun-battered and fried bits of alligator tail), steamed mussels, fried oysters and several dips, from the Pesto Goat Cheese Dip to the Bayou Shrimp Dip. Popular entrees include the Carpet Bagger Filet, an 8-ounce, center-cut tenderloin topped with lump crab cream sauce, and the French Cut Pork Chop, which Blalock refers to as “out of this world.” “We get so many compliments on our pork chop,” he says. “Our best-selling seafood dish is our Citrus Glazed Salmon, which is pan-seared with orange-ginger sauce and topped with goat cheese. Another great dish is the California Sea Bass, which has a lemon basil cream sauce on top of rice.” Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, and Crawdaddy’s does dessert in true New Orleans fashion. “We make our own crème brule and bread pudding, and they are best-sellers on our dessert menu,” Blalock says.
The wine list is also impressive, with nearly 40 different varieties
Blalock and Hensley bought the restaurant in 2007 after working together for several years at a national chain restaurant. They hoped to improve on what the previous owner was already doing at Crawdaddy’s, but they didn’t expect the huge amount of success they’ve experienced. “We’ve been able to increase our sales every year, which surprised me considering the state of the economy,” Blalock says. In 2009, Crawdaddy’s was voted the Best Local Restaurant by readers of the Cumberland Business Journal The key to their success? A slew of loyal customers who keep coming back over and over again.

Serving the finest Italian food in a vintage old home in the heart of Cookeville for over 18 years Mauricio's features an extensive menu of innovative dishes expertly prepared by our chef. If it's not on the menu they will do their best to create it for you!
Due to our continuous growth and with our staffing needs, Starting on May 1, 2021 Mauricio’s is updating our reservations policy for dining-in and patio seating.
With our limited seating capacity, we are now asking everyone to make reservations when dining in our restaurant. We are going to Reservations Only for both dine-in and for the patio.
With this in mind, we continue to ensure our guests have plenty of time to enjoy themselves while dining with us like always. With reservations, everyone needs to understand that we will have a reservation following them and they will need to be aware of their time slot. For example, the following is a list of times for the number of guests.
1-3 guests 1.5 hours
4-7 guests 2 hours
8-12 guests 2.5 hours
Our goal is still the same as always. We want our guests to have a dining experience and not be rushed. Our time slot has always been in place when our guests made reservations, we just want our guests to know and to encourage them to be on time so that we may better serve you. As before, if you let us know upon arrival, we are able to speed-up your service if you need us to.
We also want our guests to understand if/when they make reservation on the patio that we do not control the weather or insects. You would be responsible to call us and change your reservation to inside dining. With that being said, we may or may not have availability for inside dining. If we do have availability, you would be moved inside. That would be a risk that you would take when reserving an outside table. We hope everyone understands that we can not reserve 2 tables, 1 outside and 1 inside, due to limited seating and having empty tables that another guest could enjoy.
We hope everyone understands and most guests whom we have told already completely understands. We will continue to tell all our guests about the new Reservation Policy so that everyone is informed.
We appreciate all our guests and we want to continue to provide a great dining experience. We are looking forward in seeing you soon.

In Crossville-Cumberland Mountain ( 33min) State Park is a 1,586-acre
park situated on the sandstone tableland of the
Cumberland Plateau. The biological diversity of the
Cumberland Mountain area is remarkable, as the
park contains every type of tree, shrub, and flower
found on the Cumberland Plateau. A summer walk
on the Byrd Lake Trail will testify to this claim. The
park is home to typical Tennessee mammals such
as deer, rabbit, squirrel, raccoon, skunk, and gray
and red fox, as well as a variety of songbirds and
waterfowl.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Land was acquired south of Crossville in 1934 as
a project of the Farm Security Administration to
provide a recreation area for some 250 families
selected to homestead in the general area of
Cumberland County. The Homestead Act was
established by the Roosevelt Administration to aid
in building a self-sustaining community and create
further colonization in this then—sparsely populated
part of the state. The Civilian Conservation Corps,
the Works Projects Administration, and the
American Friends Service Committee constructed
the park, which opened in 1940. The park’s
architecture is unique. A local rock, Crab Orchard
sandstone was used to build many of the park’s
buildings. The Crab Orchard stone dam/bridge is
the park’s best-known landmark and is the largest
masonry structure ever built by the CCC.

Rock Island State Park is an 883-acre park located on the headwaters of Center Hill Lake at the confluence of the Caney Fork, Collins and Rocky Rivers. The rugged beauty of the park includes the Caney Fork Gorge below Great Falls Dam. These overlooks are some of the most scenic and significant along the Eastern Highland Rim. Great Falls is a 30-foot horseshoe cascading waterfall, located below the 19th-century cotton textile mill that it powered over 100 years ago. Rock Island became a Tennessee State Park in 1969.

Just (2.5 hr drive) an amazing drive-thru, walking & horseback riding nature trails! Viewing wildlife in the Smokies can be challenging because most of the park is covered by dense forest. Open areas like Cataloochee and Cades Cove offer some of the best opportunities to see white-tailed deer, elk, black bear, raccoon, turkeys, woodchucks, and other animals. The narrow, winding road of Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail encourages motorists to travel at a leisurely pace and sometimes yields sightings of bears and other wildlife. During winter wildlife is more visible because deciduous trees have lost their leaves. If you want to try to plan which day you should visit Cades Cove, you should go during the week. More people visit the Smokies on the weekends, making popular places like this more congested. The best times to visit Cades Cove during the day are early in the morning, around lunchtime, and in the late afternoon. Traffic slows down during these times, making it less congested. It's also a good idea to carry binoculars. Some people like to sit quietly beside a trail to see what wildlife will come out of hiding. And don't forget to scan the trees—many animals spend their days among the branches. Regarding bear sightings, I have never been disappointed!

Ozone Falls (39 min) is a 43-acre natural area in Cumberland County. Ozone Falls plunges 110 feet over a sandstone cap rock into a deep blue, rock-strewn pool. Fall Creek then disappears underground until it reemerges several feet downstream. An impressive rock house "amphitheatre" can be seen behind the falls that were created over geologic time by wind, water, freeze/thaw and erosion. Because of its picturesque beauty and easy access, Ozone Falls was selected for filming scenes for the movie "Jungle Book." Small open glades occur on the bluffs that support native grasses and prairie plants. The surrounding upland vegetation is dominated by oaks and Virginia pine. A remnant old-growth mixed mesophytic forest community is found beneath the waterfall. It is comprised of eastern hemlock, white pine, magnolia, yellow birch, sugar maple, tulip poplar and red oak, and with rosebay rhododendron in the shrub layer. The stream contains many huge boulders, some the size of houses, and many small placid pools. A rugged ¾-mile trail begins along the bluff near the falls, then descends into the gorge, passing a small rock house called Gamblers Den. The trail follows Fall Creek to the confluence with Renfro Creek where hikers must backtrack to return to the trailhead.

Brushy Mountain was the last place you wanted to find yourself – right in the middle of Tennessee’s first maximum-security prison holding the state’s most violent murderers, robbers and rapists for over a century. With some sentences of 200 years or more, most of the men who walked through its gates would never be walking out. Come see for yourself just what life was like for lost souls at the End of the Line.

I-Penitentiary Yase-United States Yase-Brushy Mountain State Yase-Historic
9182 TN-116Brushy Mountain was the last place you wanted to find yourself – right in the middle of Tennessee’s first maximum-security prison holding the state’s most violent murderers, robbers and rapists for over a century.
