Welcome to The Lion House
A beautiful welsh cottage in Mid Wales.
WE wanted to share with you bits of useful information about the area:
But also how best to enjoy the house and leave it so you don’t worry about anything other than having a great stay!
Great house for family get-togethers and multigenerational reunions - Pretty Lion House sits in the middle of Newbridge on Wye, which is a lovely friendly village in the heart of Mid Wales. The house is a easy to look after, family friendly base for you to explore the area, Elan Valley and Brecon Beacons. The village has 2 pubs, a park, village store and wye river walk & beach is a MUST! Sit back and chill out after a great day out!
The space
This is a special house with a lovely feeling, not a fancy state of the art pad. It's for families, couples and friends reunions who want to be out and about, then come home and crash. There are lovely Friday markets in Builth and Llandrindod for fresh fruit, veg and meat. The Village is perfect location for exploring the STUNNING wild, rugged and hidden secrets of Mid Wales. From castles, dams, bike rides, villages and OUTSTANDING river walks that can't be beaten. The house has SOLAR hot water when it's sunny so we try to make the house as environmentally friendly as possible. Encouraging you to use the wood burner.
Guest access
You have the whole house, 3 very spacious living spaces perfect for relaxing after a long day walking, visiting castles and gardens. A beautiful cosy dining room for lovely meals local meats and veg grown in Mid Wales. You will have the patio / garden. We are around in our studio which is across the lane: so if you need any help: But also you may want to book a pottery course while you stay. Get even more out of your stay in Newbridge, Mid Wales.
Interaction with guests
We live locally and work in the studio so we are around to help. We want you to have a very special stay: we know it's not a large house on a hill with 360 views, but if you want a fabulous cosy, fun house with lovely bedrooms for all the family and a safe garden you don't have to worry about: It's perfect: It's mid wales that is great to visit. We have lived in the area for 12 years. We have worked in culture and tourism all that time: so we can help book, or suggest anything you are interested in and we've pretty much done it all. Trips to the coast only 50 minutes away: great walks, yummy restaurants and fabulous castles like Raglan only 40 minutes away. In Newbridge you really are so close to a bit of everything.
Other things to note
1) Do a great pottery course with us and spend one of your days as our VIP guest in the studio.
2) Walk down the river Wye.
3) Go out for lunch in Brecon, Builth Wells or Crickhowell - we know some yummy places.
4) Visit the Elan Valley 10 minutes away.
5) Raglan Castle - perfect fairytale castle with plenty of history 35 mins away.
6) Borth and Aberdovey - great seaside town 1 hour away spend the day crabbing in Aberdovey - but don't pay the expensive hotel bill.
7) Row a boat on Llandrindod Lake.
8) Great Golfing.
9) Horse riding in the brecon beacons, 30 mins away.
10) Go down a silver / lead mine: 40 mins away.
Leave the house as you found it: beds made, dishwasher empty with all clean crockery and cutlery put away. Replace anything you have finished. Dirty linen towels, cloths and tea-towels in the washing machine *we will wash them, Thank You!.
Please use all the solar water – baths save water and there is a lot of hot water that needs using in the summer months, or any sunny day. Please make sure the solar water is used before you use the booster or put on the boiler in the dining room – Thank You.
Recycling is EVERY TUESDAY, we put the bins just on the pathways near the car park. Powys tries to recycle and compost everything they can – so please do your bit and fill the bins rather than putting out all your rubbish in the general waste.
Kids toys enjoy all the toys, but please look after them and put them back on the shelf for other little visitors to Lion House – Thank You.
DVD and BOOK library – Please enjoy reading and watching everything: but leave them in the house for other guests. You hope you don’t have to say don’t take the books and DVDs but we have experienced issues that in this manual it’s best to sound clear as you can, no offense.

WILDLIFE:
https://www.rwtwales.org
Radnorshire Wildlife Trust began life alongside Herefordshire back in 1962. After much good work between the two, it was time to go it alone and Radnorshire became its own Wildlife Trust in 1987.
and then…
Radnorshire Wildlife Trust (RWT) bought Gilfach Nature Reserve in 1988. Of course, it wasn’t quite as simple as that, nothing ever is. However, Radnorshire Wildlife Trust went on to renovate and restore the dilapidated Welsh Long house and the 411 acre reserve is now a Special Site of Scientific Interest, a Special Protection Area and part of the River Marteg is within a Special Area for Conservation.
From 1997 – 1999 a two year Biological Evaluation Project funded by Heritage Lottery Funding, was conducted over all the reserves owned and managed by RWT. This resulted in a tremendous amount of conservation work being carried out over the next five years.
and now…
Radnorshire Wildlife Trust is continuing to acquire new nature reserves with money left by legacies. Under the title “Living Landscapes” we are trying to join up all sorts of land managed for wildlife to create even bigger areas for wildlife to flourish.
