Our flat is located in the middle of historic Cockburn Street, EH1, a picturesque street in Edinburgh's Old Town.
On our street is a grocers selling milk, fruit & veg and newspapers, wine etc. There is also a pharmacy (Boots) and numerous coffee shops.
We really enjoy a bistro called Ecco Vino (which is a few doors down) and Devil's Advocate (Advocate's Close) for delicious meals and nice wine and beer.
Our street was featured in the film Avengers film Infinity War.
History
The street was created as a serpentine link from the Royal Mile to Waverley Station in 1856. The truncated ends of the closes were remodelled in the Scots Baronial style 1859 to 1864. You will see gargoyles spouting water when there is heavy rain from the stone masonry above our apartment.
Medieval Remnants
One of the more famous closes divided by the street is Fleshmarket Close. Both this and Anchor Close maintain the medieval pattern of Edinburgh's Old Town in this area.
At the top of the street is your gateway to the Old Town and all of the fun of the Edinburgh Festivals and Edinburgh's Christmas and Hogmanay. The Royal Mile stretches from the castle at the top to the Queen's residence Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament at the bottom. This is the 'touristic' part of town and features a great deal of historic architecture.
