Try the traditional Tacos al Pastor and agua de horchata. This place is clean, has good fast service and sits on the main Avenue Chapultepec.

This is the prefect place if you're looking to have an American style breakfast. They have a large variety in their menu, which doesn't mean it's a standard place. Anything you order will be delicious. They also offer traditional Mexican breakfast if you want to try the chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. It's located in a heritage house, nice terrace all around and on one of the nicest streets in the neighborhood with beautiful houses and gardens.

This might not be the traditional street taco stand, however they are quite good and have noticed foreigners enjoy them a lot. They offer a comfortable dinning area, music and tvs, and exceptionally fast service. People usually order their most famous tacos: tacos al pastor. You can have them by taco or by complete order. Half and order is good for two people. I personally enjoy having the order and fixing the tacos myself, it’s all part of the pleasure! Order extra tortillas if needed at no additional cost. Hack: If you think it’s too much food, order the rest for take out! You will have an extra meal ready to eat later at home.

To me it’s the best ramen in town. It has a traditional japanese decor, service is fast and even when they have good quality ingredients, the menu remains in the ramen price range. If you want a lighter ramen style, order Yuzu Ramen which doesn’t have a thick broth and might be more suitable for evening meal. Please note this place closes early! (8pm) You can order other dishes different than ramen, however, the place is designed more as a eat and go restaurant. You won’t find comfortable sitting area for a long romantic dinner and drinks for example.

I usually run to this place if you need a light heart warming stew. Order hot Pho which is a light soy broth. The price is a bit higher than it should be, however every time I go I end up thinking it’s worth every penny. You can also try spring rolls, bahn mi, sweet coffee and lychee or green ice cream. It’s all so good! Everything in the menu is traditional Vietnamese food.

There has been many restaurant/coffee shops with similar concept opening in the area. This is the one I consider the best, with good service, music and a wide variety of menu options. It all tastes very home made and the outdoor area is very nice to be for a long chat over coffee or even working on your laptop.

Even when this place feels very casual and relaxed I assure they serve fine dinning dishes. They have very creative menu options and dishes not offered anywhere else. Please try the beef sandwich, lengua en su jugo or tacos de la io, and the avocado mouse for dessert. It’s so good! If you enjoy wine, they have an extensive wine menu. Cocktails are very good too! They have a special brunch menu but this is a place I would go for the original dinner menu.

If you want to dip in a traditional neighborhood market, you should definitely come here. You can find fresh fruit and vegetables, seeds, dry chili and anything you can think of! Try the famous birria and quesadillas fritas . Chicharron (pork) and mushroom quesadilla are my favorite, but you can try different guisados (stews) that go inside the quesadilla. They're served with lettuce, onion, green sauce and cream. Order a fresh agua fresca with your food or enjoy your meal with a freshly made green juice (or any other kind of fresh juice).

This used to be the main boulevard where well off families used to go out for a walk. It is now full of bars, restaurants, bookstores and coffee shops you can find all along the avenue. It has a walkable wide boulevard where people meet and involve in different activities during the day and has now become an iconic place of Guadalajara. You can find street markets selling clothes, design, arts and crafts and different themed markets depending on the day, from organic produce, to plants and crafts. Sometimes during the day and sometimes at night. The boulevard continues all the way to Niños Heroes Avenue and has plenty of space to sit down around trees and fountains and enjoy the sun or walk along and see around. You'll get a nice selfie here!

Other food options

There’s lots of other restaurants, more and more opening every week (really!). Look around. There’s so many different kind of food offered in the area. There’s also Korean, Indian, Lebanese, Italian and more restaurant options. I think Guadalajara is a Vegan heaven for the ones looking for these choices. The ones I share are the ones that I visit the most because they’re nice places to be, they have good service and quality vs. price is a must for me. There’s a few fine dining restaurants on my list that I considered are worth trying at least once even when the price range is higher.
