Food scene
My favorite cafe in SF when I need some healing time and nourishment. The best teas, great vegan food, and I’m not even vegan. Be prepared for very relaxed (read:slow) service as they’re a small shop, and take great care with their preparation. I consider the owner, Kami, a friend. Please let him know Leah (the mermaid) sent you ;)

Local Oakland business employs formerly incarcerated people and serves up fried chicken sandwiches & salads, and delicious baked goods. Always a line out the door but it moves pretty fast. Take your sando around back and wander down Temescal Alley off 49th Street.

If you find yourself in Marin needing some good food.... There is also a San Rafael location. The food is amazing. I always go for the Pollo al Horno.

Spa/ Retreats
When your idea of a good time is chillin’ and self-care
Nudist spa retreat within the city, with a Russian flair. This mermaid likes the waters and steam rooms here, also enjoying some of the best views of the Bay from their rooftop. Having traveled to Poland as a kid, the Eastern European / Russian fare is nostalgic. Recommend the soups; the borscht & solyanka are both salty & satisfying.

Chicken & Waffles
Who doesn’t love chicken & waffles?
Some of the best soul food in SF. The best Shrimp & grits, Fried Oysters, chicken & waffles.... It’s slightly off the beaten path, which is nice if you don’t like dealing with so much crowds and traffic. Casual, Not touristy, and amazingly for SF, not overpriced!

Local Shops
In Temescal alley off 49th Street. You’ll find lots of succulents, air plants, and naturally scented candles & fragrances. Temescal alley in general is a favorite local haunt for its adorable, tiny shoe-box/hole-in the wall shops. Good place to gift-shop for something unique.
