"Hold to your hat!" ... That's always good advice for folks planning to visit this downhome Southern fav, whose first restaurant opened in B-Ham back when Bear Bryant was running things. Pork, chicken and savory brisket are lovingly prepared the old fashioned way – slow-cooked over a hickory wood fire – and will satisfy even the heartiest appetite. Exposed brick walls, dark wood, and historic pictures of Birmingham give the 11th Avenue spot a cozy feeling that will have you coming back again and again.

We may the oldest and largest brewery in the state, but we don't put on airs. We’ve found that it’s usually the most unassuming person in the room who truly knows their craft. Because making something great is hard work. But being good is really pretty simple, and always easy to spot.

The Early Days
Cahaba Brewing Company was founded in the summer of 2011 by a group of friends united by their love of craft beer and home brewing. Together, they devised a plan to build a brewery in beautiful Birmingham, Alabama.
The group found an excellent location for the brewery in the Pepper Place/Lakeview district of Birmingham on 3rd Avenue South. The 8000 square foot building housed the brewery and tasting room until 2016. Cahaba hand-selected and assembled the brewing equipment necessary for the job. The original Cahaba Brewing Company set-up consisted of a Premier Stainless 3.5 bbl brewhouse outfitted with four 7 bbl fermenters, two 15 bbl fermenters (Frank) & (Stein), and three 7 bbl brite tanks. With a few struggles and hurdles to jump, we started brewing beer in the late spring of 2012 and officially opened to the public in September 2012.
Today
In January 2016, we celebrated our "Last Pint Night" at the original 3rd Ave South location. The new 51,000 square foot building, located in the Historical Continental Gin Complex, opened its doors on January 19. The space is flexible, offering multiple options for all varieties of private event needs such as weddings, reunions, corporate events and birthday parties.
The production facility has expanded from the original 3.5 bbl brewhouse to a 30 bbl brewhouse. The new set-up consists of three 60 bbl fermenter tanks and three 120 bbl fermenter tank as well as one 60 bbl brite tank and one 120 bbl brite tank. In addition, the 3.5 bbl system is still in use for our Pilot Batch beers. Cahaba uses a Wild Goose canning line with 5 filler heads to package the American Blonde, Oka Uba IPA, White IPA, Pale Ale and seasonal beers. Cahaba is distributed throughout Greater Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa and Auburn.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) traces its roots to the 1859 founding of the Medical College of Alabama and the 1936 opening of the Birmingham Extension Center of the University of Alabama. In 1945 the Medical College of Alabama was moved from Tuscaloosa and the University's Medical Center was founded in Birmingham. In 1954 the Extension Center was moved to a newly constructed facility adjacent to the Medical Center, bringing together for the first time the University's two academic components in Birmingham. Later, in November of 1966, the Extension Center and the Medical Center were administratively merged to form the "University of Alabama in Birmingham," an organizational component of the University of Alabama (in Tuscaloosa). In 1969 UAB became an independent institution, one of the autonomous universities within the newly created three-campus University of Alabama System.
Today, UAB is a comprehensive urban university with a nationally recognized academic health center. UAB is the only public, four-year degree granting university in the state's largest metropolitan area. UAB is the largest research institution in the state of Alabama and is the largest single employer in the state.
