City/town information

Heading into downtown Newport? There are tons of restaurants and shops at your disposal down on the wharfs at Thames Street (~2.5 miles [4km] away). History buff or love architecture? Newport is renowned for their mansions: The Breakers, The Elms, Marble House, Rosecliff, and more! Sticking to the great outdoors? Check out the State Parks nearby (Brenton and Fort Adams).

Middletown is located in the 'middle' of Aquidneck Island, sandwiched between Portsmouth to the north, and Newport, to the south. Close enough to all the action of Newport (less than a 10 minute drive to Thames Street!), but far enough to have more seascapes than cityscapes.

Food scene

A Rhode Island staple since 1948; delicious frozen lemonade. There's often a Del's lemonade stand at the beach, but there is a dedicated Del's shop in Middletown. They're often cash only.

Their motto is, 'Good grub, good beer, good vibes', and with a menu including hand cut fries, burgers, hot dogs & falafel, I'm inclined to agree.

Rain or shine event celebrating music, food, and crafts. As there are beer gardens, etc., the event seems more tailored for adults. Navigating Parking

Summertime is a little difficult to find parking, especially the closer you get towards downtown Newport. Be careful of areas where you can only park if you have a permit.
