Petrzalka was build in our sad era of socialism. It was required to build huge amount of flats and very quickly. For this purpose a small village Petrzalka was destroyed and horrible buildings were built instead. Because it needed to be ASAP, the trees didn't have time to grow, the sidewalks were not ready and as a result there was lot of mud when raining… so Petrzalka gained a renome of the ugliest place to live, which remains in the heads of many people until today.
Nowadays the situation is better - trees are grown, infrastructure is built and people (like me) choose it for their home, because some parts are walking distance to the city center:-) Still, the "deeper" you go to Petrzalka, the more you can see the ugly face of socialism.
I would suggest you to visit the nicer part - take a bus nr. 80 from Zochova to Kapicova - it's maybe 5min by bus. Behind you will see the "old Petrzalka" houses, many rebuild and renovated. Take a walk through Nobelovo namestie - you will see many socialism buildings and new buildings in between. And finally take a walk via Digital Park, through Aupark to Sad Janka Krala - this is the nice new part:-) In the end you can just walk to the town through Most SNP or Old bridge.
For a guided Petrzalka tour you can contact guys from Authentic Slovakia directly.

Never take a standing taxi
Important note: NEVER take a standing taxi in Bratislava. It is way more expensive than to call one. It is strange, but it's far more cheap to call a taxi by phone, becouse most taxis have a "standing fee" - an extra fee you pay for having them immediately available. Locals sometimes copy a phone number from a standing taxi and call it few meters away.We recommend to download the Bolt app and use it as a local Uber. It is very cheap and reliable. The closest pick up point to our Naive Home studio apartment is on Michalska Street.

Alway with a ticket
In Bratislava, you shall always have a ticket "in your hand", before you enter public transportation.
If you have a "paper ticket", you have to validate it in your first vehicle - afterwards it is valid for defined time and no more validation is needed. In case your time is over and you are still in the bus/tram, you shall validate another ticket.
In case you want to use SMS ticket, you have to send the SMS and recieve the confirmation before you step into the bus/tram. In case you didn't receive the confirmation, don't enter the vehicle.

Red chairs
Red chairs all around the streets of Bratislava are for everyone, they don't "belong" to any restaurant or cafe, anybody can use them. Just take a seat and relax:-)
These red chairs usually 'appear' in spring and summer.

Toilets for free
In case you are paying for food or coffee in a restaurant, you have a right to use their bathroom for free. That is valid also in case of fastfood restaurants with tourniquets - just show them your receipt and they have to allow you bathroom access without paying.
